how do i find a loophole?

you are breaking some laws.

easy for the admin here to find out, copy your IP address. locate your city you live in and then find the person who applied to Rice ED from your area.

easy for you to get caught.

i think you can only argue with the financial issue with some credibility only if you are really low income and Rice gives you an extremely bad package. You can’t just say stanford has better aid and you want to go there. It will have to be financially impossible for you to afford Rice and at the same time be able to afford what Stanford gives you

IMO its too complicated and risk getting both colleges rejecting you.

You’d be breaking a contract, not “some laws.” The government does not interfere with contractual agreements made between US citizens unless a lawsuit is filed, in which case they would side with the contract, unless it violated any real laws.

In this case, you would probably never get to a lawsuit. If you break your contract with Rice, and Stanford finds out, your acceptance to Stanford will be rescinded. If you then look back at Rice after breaking their contract, they will more than likely rescind their acceptance as well.

It isn’t illegal to enroll at a college other than your ED school, it’s just a breach of contract, and if discovered, will close your enrollment opportunities at both schools.

why the hell did you think you would get rejected at stanford with those stats!!

i didnt think i had good stats!! My parents made me think that anything below a perfect school was horrible.

You wrote in an earlier post that you are applying to dozens of schools RD. Apollo, don’t you plan to withdraw them? Like, right away?

You’ve said in previous posts you applied to “all ivys, stanford, rice, NWern, duke, mit, etc. etc. accepted: yale, stanford, rice (going to attend), mit, uchicago”. You said the Yale acceptance was a likely letter. I honestly hope you are not serious about all this because when you apply ED somewhere, you are supposed to withdraw your other applications IMMEDIATELY. If you wanted to see where you’d get in, you should have applied regular. Honestly, you’re just wasting the adcoms time and taking a spot for another student. You applied ED to Rice so I hate to break it to ya, but I think you’re going to have to go there. Considering all these schools are private, I do not think you will be able to get away with saying you cannot afford Rice, but you can afford one of these other places. If you wanted options, you shouldn’t have applied ED. I’m sorry for being blunt, but the fact is you are already going against the contract by not withdrawing your other apps.

“i got admitted ED @ harvard”

Admitted: "MIT
Rice
UChicago
UT-Austin
Tulane
Southwestern

still waiting from harvard, p-ton, yale, and stanford  "

You also said in some other threads that you got deferred EA at Chicago…

hmmmmmmm…

all you really can do is call both universities and talk to them about the situation. It wouldn’t be a good idea to try out “find a loophole” because you’ll risk not being able to attend either college. How come you didn’t apply SCEA Stanford instead of ED Rice if Stanford was your dream school?

Anyways, if it comes down to it, you can always apply as a transfer next year. I doubt Stanford wouldn’t accept you (again.)

Did you explain these possible consequences of getting into an ED school to your parents? i.e. if I apply here and get in, I have 0% chance of going to ivy league/ top schools, etc. I think that would strike fear in most (not all) asian parents.

apollo, in one of ur thread things you said “yeah, im going to rice. i would choose rice anyday! yaay! XD”…so whats the problem?

hey apollo, can you please pm me a break down of your stats and your essay? pllleeeaasseee!i can’t believe you got into Rice, Stanford and MIT! congrats!

advice: play it safe. go to rice for a year, then transfer to Stanford. i’m sure they’ll accept you… unless they harbor the grudge of you going to Rice in th first place. (i doubt they’d be that immature). :D

I believe you need to be released from Rice, otherwise they could blackball you at other colleges. I would call Rice and throw yourself at their mercy, saying that if they insist you will attend Rice according to your obligation but you would be forever grateful if they would release you from your obligation since your personal circumstances have changed. They might prefer to have someone who is totally enthusiastic attending Rice rather than someone who is forced to be there because of an obligation. If they release you, then you would be free to attend Stanford. In any case they would be unlikely to blackball you since you have agreed to go there if they won’t release you from your committment.

I think you should just go to Rice, honestly. You made a commitment by signing for ED, so you should stick with it if you don’t want colleges to question your integrity. Risking losing a solid college for a “better” one, which I don’t think is necessarily any “better”, is something I don’t think you would want to do. Please take my advice if you choose to do so and withdraw your applications to all your other schools. This is only fair to those who do actually want to go to those schools and have set their hopes on it. Thanks and good luck.

eh. stanford’s better for grad school anyway. suck it up, buddy.

The GC at my kids’ school was an adcom at two prestigous schools & assured us that adcoms DO talk among themselves & find out which students were accepted ED. I agree that you could very easily find yourself with acceptances at both Rice & Stanford & MIT & everywhere rescinded. ED is binding and the colleges recognize it as such. It is the applicant’s obligation to withdraw aps IMMEDIATELY from all other schools after being admitted ED.
Transferring after freshman year is an option that could work if you like, but not if you get all the schools mad at you now by reneging on your contract with your ED school, Rice! The academic community is smaller than you might think–your GC will confirm.

Ok now.

Does it make sense to apply early to lets say Miami University and at the same time apply RD to Harvard. Cuz it is the same thing you did. Well no biggie on the 65 dollars but you are never going to Stanford. I am more upset than you are.

Bad strategy, i am inclined to presumed that parents were involved without really knowing.

Btw - bad parents.

i never knew Apollo was Asian… hmmm… thank god my parents are only limiting my college options based on expenses.

I think its been shown the original poster is a bunch of BS

Hey I though that too but didn’t want to be the indictor.
It’s called pseudologica fantastica.
