no no no, i don’t have Munchausen syndrome. but it’s understandable that you’d think that :)

I would contact, before it’s too late, the universities you were accepted to and are not planning on attending. That way you don’t lower these school’s matriculation/yeild rates and don’t waste other admit spots.

Also, as others have recommended, I would contact Rice and explain your situation. Stanford’s got to have a better aid package so you can explain that you can’t afford to go to Rice and that Stanford’s offering you a better package. It’s likely they will bind you to their school, but they might allow you to attend Stanford.

Well, that may not be the case. Rice tuition is about 10k cheaper than comparable private schools

1) Your parents are obviously just above functionally ■■■■■■■■.
2) You need to stop listening to them and become an adult
3) Part of being an adult is reaping what you sow. That means attending RICE under a LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT THAT YOU SIGNED.
4) Then fix your situation by getting good grades and excellent recs inorder to transfer to Stanford after 1 year.

That is unless Rice offered you less financial aid then Stanford. Then just say that you just can’t afford to go and matriculate at Stanford. Why the hell would they admit someone as stupid as you? Please, enlighten me.

you haven’t even been officially accepted to Stanford yet (meaning no aid package) so you can’t lie and tell Rice that Stanford is giving you more money. I don’t think they would just let you off anyways without proof of a cheaper aid package, which you don’t have. you’re stuck with Rice because you signed a contract. you shouldn’t have even applied anywhere else and I hope you’ve withdrawn your applications at the other schools.

Just seeing this thread and the title “how do I find a loophole?” makes me kind of angry. You screwed up, suck it up.

go to rice and stop taking the spot of someone who knows how to read an ed contract

why would u take the spot of other students at other schools, when u’ve already been admitted ED?

it seems like a really unreasonable thing to do

why would u take someone else’s spot from the them when you’re NOT GOING TO ATTEND?!?!?!?!

It’s true that you are jeopardizing your entire school’s rep & will have a very bad effect on others who want to get into college after you. You are also SERIOUSLY jeopardizing your chances of EVER getting into a school or transferring, the longer you wait to do the right thing–go to Rice gratefully & withdraw all your other aps.
Your waffling & trying to find a loophole is really bad for you, the schools, your HS, other prospective students, etc.

And what’s more, this ordeal will probably give you herpes.

JimmyEatWorld, you’re now my favorite poster ever!

Actually, in retrospect, it seems you would probably be better off contacting Stanford and the other schools and letting them know BEFORE they finish delibrations. If you go to Rice with the situation they might rescind their offer of admission since you didn’t withdraw other applications. Then, since they must have informed the other universities of your acceptance by their early decision program, you would be left in a tight situation.

Thus I’d recommend withdrawing the other applications while you’re within the Rice’s contractual deadline and then transferring to Stanford next year. You have a chance at getting in, considering they were willing to accept you early.

People like you make me really angry. You messed up. You go to Rice. And withdraw your other applications please!

…only because this doesn’t affect me, I’m not going to do it

On another thread a while back on the Stanford board in which someone exagerated his ECs, someone emailed Stanford admissions the entire thread because the student was accepted early. I advise those of you who feel strongly enough about this issue to email this thread to these colleges.

I can’t believe that someone would do ED and then try to back out of it…there’s a reason people get an advantage in ED, but I guess some people just aren’t ever satisfied with what they get and always want more.

what thread was this??

…if my memory serves me correctly, it was a thread on the stanford board about a girl from Houston, TX who supposedly cheated her way into Stanford or something EA and it made tons of people here mad because of the way she was portrayed. One of the posts on the thread was from someone who said that he’d e-mailed the entire thread to stanford to let them find the applicant and review for themselves

the story was she had someone else write her essays and it was known in her class that she did this.

^^yes, that sounds about right…

do u guys have a link to this thread?

I looked yesterday, but I couldn’t find it; it’s very possible that the mods deleted it
