I know my GPA is low but I significantly improved each year, do u think this would be a Plus for me?

How do I stack up to the tough competition at UVA? PLEASE CHANCE ON A SCALE OF 1-10, WITH 1 BEING “NO SHOT”

thanks you guys

<Edit) Leadership (this is extra): India me and my parents have created a organization that raises nearly $10,000 every month and we use this to build schools and other education things in the rural areas…I go there every summer and help out and I teach there also during summer

Are you from NOVA? You have good SAT scores…but your GPA is “low”…if you’re not from NOVA, you might have a much better chance.

Well your grades don’t put you ahead of the applicant pool much, but it’s really about how you frame your application…and by that I mean how you appear on your ESSAY…

If you feel confident and comfortable talking about it, I would suggest you write about your charity work in India. And allow me to make the distinction between talking about the qualities you demonstrated through the experience rather than just mentioning the opportunity you were given.

I don’t know whether this was much help…but I feel VERY strongly about the importance of the essay as the tipping point of an admissions decision. (I had a 3.9/5 GPA with a 1970 SAT and a few extracuricculars…but my essay on my experiences during my 2 years in the army really tipped the scale for me …I think)

Overall, I’d give you a 6.5 (But it really depends on what school within uva you are applying to…i think your AP CS score will make it difficult for you to get into an engineering program…but it really depends) The thing about college admissions is…if you are meant to be somewhere…u’ll probably get in.

What tips the scale is not so much the essay but something unusual that you did and makes you stand apart from the rest. Anup’s 2 years in the army was what did it for him. Some other guy on this board had climbed the highest mountain in Russia. For everybody else, it’s the grades and rigor of curriculum.
