^I don’t believe it.
I am big on muumuu dresses at home.

I still can’t get over the harem pants that a poster noted upstream…I am so buying a pair of them.
I dress nicely for work and often work late so by the time I get home I throw on old comfy clothes - usually gym shorts or yoga pants and a t-shirt in warm weather, and fleece pjs or sweats and a sweat shirt in cold weather. My H and I work in the same building. We visit during the day and often lunch together so he sees me looking respectable. I hope that makes up for my week night attire.
If we aren’t going out after I get home, I change into a t-shirt and shorts. Flip-flops if I go out to play with the dog or check on the garden.
@oldfort I like the printed dresses.
That is what I wear most days in cotton or rayon. I have some that are knee length and others that are full length. Very comfortable. I sometimes wear jeans with a real pretty tunic/peasant top. (pure cotton white with some floral prints in turquoise or coral color. Just a top that is cotton, cool, feminine, and pretty.

My secret to comfortable office wear: silk jersey.
I have a couple of dresses sort of like the ones linked by oldfort. Lole and some Hawaiian dress maker. In the winter, plush fleece robes are my go to loungewear.
I’m seriously considering bringing a slanket to class this winter. My kids bring blankets to school rather than wear jackets when it gets cold here. It’s evidently a thing-middle class white kids dressing like hobos has become de rigeur.
I keep a tissue weight pashmina (Nordie brand) in the drawer of my desk in case the AC decides to kick in full force. I also have one in my “school bag”. Hobo look - refined.
Somebody up thread mentioned harem pants. There’s a website called Harempants, and they sell cheap yoga pants and other “funkier” harem pants. My son and his firings (male and female) order from there. He loves is and wears them often.
When I come home if I typically put on something like Jean shorts (longish, not short shorts) and a tank or tee in summer. In winter I put on “lounging pants” which I think of as not tight like yoga pants, but not as sloppy as “sweat pants” and a long sleeved tee or sweatshirt (we keep our house cold). I do have to match.
@MotherOfDragons , my daughters were bringing blankets to high school back in '05. They claimed the district kept the thermostats low to save money and control the dress code.
When I get home in warm weather I put on shorts and a tee shirt or a tee shirt style dress. If it’s after 8 it’s straight into one of my Soma dress/nightdress things. I can sleep in them, but could also answer the doorbell in them. Google soma , you will find lots of styles to love.
In cold weather I wear yoga pants and smartwool tee’s.
I had a longer version of the Tribal Sadie dress oldfort posted. I haven’t seen it in a while. It was wonderfully comfortable and would be great for changing into.
If I’m not already wearing comfy clothing (leggings and a cotton top, for example), I change into these types of clothes when I come home. I actually love to take off my pants! And my bra
I look really crappy at home and I do not care while my H. does not have a clue what I am wearing, does not care a bit. He cares only about one thing - he does not like when I have grey hair. This has worked very well for me, if it was not for him, I would not die my hair either. Aging brings such a freedom from this constant cycle of shopping and throwing clothes and shopping again and pitch it. In addition, I have a constant supply from my D., so convenient! So, I do have to pitch my clothes sometime, but not near the rate it used to be. I am never “gross” after my work outs either, I never sweated much before and I completely stopped later in my life. My clothes does not get dirty at all and they do not smell. Neither do my hair, I basically have to remember to shampoo them sometime. But there is a reason for it - spending over 1 hr in a pool every day, dries you more than just age alone.
Oldfort, I like those dresses! I’m sure my DH would like them, too.
I am definitely in the baggy t-shirt/shorts/yoga pants category. I’m all about comfort, and I don’t like things that cling to me (weight loss or not).
Doschicos, clothing can definitely be a protective suit of armor. I hide in my clothes.
Very little of my work wardrobe has even been dry clean only – I tend to cottons and lightweight knits. And scarves. So.Many.Scarves.
Clothing as armor: yeah, definitely. I have an outfit that I wear to the girls’ school occasionally that is pretty aggressive and intimidating looking.
I have a tennis outfit that includes kneesocks with Animal the Muppet on them. I trot them out when we play the snobby country clubs-I deliberately go in the opposite direction of “clubby” because it makes it that much more awesome when we beat them.
Most of the time I’m not sending a message with my clothes, though. But I know how to do it when it’s necessary-I think it’s a good skill to have.
I am, thankfully, the opposite of MiamiDAP. I enjoy clothes- whether for work, athletics or casual. If I run after work I wear running clothes and then change the sports bra/singlet or top into something comfortable for hanging out in the evening. Winter it’s Oiselle or Lulu casual pants (nicer sweat pants) or running tights and a hoodie. I love hoodies (known as sweatshirts in my world) and have quite a few. I go out with the dogs, and not that anyone cares what I have on, but I like to at least not be in pajamas or anything awful.

My kid’s summer league team swam against some teams from very snobby country clubs. Think of a posh place with no parent-run concession stand… Instead, a bar with beer and wine for the adults and hotdogs grilled by one of their chefs. The kid’s team coach was puzzled why everyone wore their rattiest suit to those meets. Same logic as yours!
Both of my kids bought something like this for their rooms. They used decorative baskets to give it more color. They were able to store a lot of things in those baskets to keep their rooms tidy.
