Suppose you have to do some papers or other tasks that require some creativity or innovation that you cannot find in your utterly dead brain, what do you do?

Umm… well, just kind of keep it in your brain for a whole day, and as you do your normal activities, you might see something that stimulates you to be creative. Or think about the topic and write down anything that comes to mind, and you should be able to get something creative. It works for me, mostly.

but that doesn’t work if it’s due tomorrow or something and you’re basically freaking out and staring at the blinking what do you call it? the straight line that moves when you type…

You could take a break from writing your paper and do something that requires creativity, like playing the piano or something. Then after you’re done playing the piano, go back to your paper and write something. =D

yeah, try to forget about the paper and just watch some tv, read, listen to music. A couple hours later come back to it and you might have some new ideas.

Are you talking about the cursor? And yes, just take a break and do something else for a while.

like attempting to study for a math exam? lol, guess this is what I get for procrastinating.

Haha, that works. Although it might be better to do something a bit more creative/artistic.

I was being sarcastic but I’m really going to start doing something more productive than posting on CC, and what’s a squirrel monkey? I think I asked on the “fashion thread” but I don’t think you saw it…

I tried many different methods to improve my creativity skills, one of which I try is to look at and pay attention to those creative things around me. There are tons of them, from the advertisement you see on TV, an interesting design you accidentally see on someone’s clothes, to your friends’ creative daily jokes.

Don’t just enjoy them, but actually think about them and think about how the maker (designer, your friends, …) can think of that creative design, jokes, … You might think it’s kinda useless at first, but for a long time, those stuff automatically gets into your mind and whenever you need to do something creative (posters, writing, …), things just naturally come out of your mind.

hope it helps.

Thinking…you know, that little thing called an imagination.

i am the least creative person you’ll ever meet. i don’t get creative.

1) Think about project for five minutes.
2) Realize inspiration is likely to come to me at random moments, and go do something else all day, like play NetHack.
3) Stay up all night waiting for moment of inspiration.
4) Three hours before I have to go to school, start panicking and wondering why I haven’t done any work or come up with any ideas.
5) Decide finding “brilliant” solution is unmanageable. Settle for “less brilliant but workable” solution.
6) Rush through project. Get to school 30 minutes late. Finish project during lunch.
7) Get an A.

^^story of my life :p

if i’m trying to come up with an idea, sometimes i’ll just start making a list of potential topics or whatever, as silly as they might be, writing down EVERYTHING that comes into my head. sometimes i’ll start writing bits of them-- not as a final draft, but just as preliminary ideas. often one of them develops into something useful.

i’m like deenierah, and i just write down all my ideas, and usually once i see everything written down, i am able to pick the best idea and build on it.

well. whenever i take nice, long showers
crazy creative ideas pop into my head for whatever projects/essays i have for that day.
