<p>The amount of people saying the bus is too unsafe to take entertains me. Just don’t look like the rich 15 year old just waiting to be mugged, and you will be fine. Really. The buses aren’t that bad at all, even in cities with terrible crime rates. They get some shady people, but that rarely actually makes them unsafe.</p>
<p>Well, all this summer I’ve been using the DC metro system, which is very acceessible (there’s a stop 5 min from my house) and goes basically anywhere in the tri-state area you could possibly want. It’s relatively expensive (at the point in the summer when I was working mornings and going to rehersals in the evening it cost me $7.50/day, so almost $40 a week) but it’s better than listening to my mother complain!</p>
<p>During the school year I really don’t do much besides acting in school plays because my school isn’t very metro-accesible (you have to take a bus to the station, which is just too much time) Joining a club would mean waiting for hours upon end for my parents to pick me up afterwards, but I know I need to do more this year than acting so I’m just going to bite the bullet and join more stuff.</p>

Yes, but murders on buses actually do make them unsafe.
Not to mention most people here are on edge and slightly crazy the past few years.</p>
