It’s not possible to put a badge on everyone’s shirt that says their IQ or standardized test scores, yet people are called stupid all the time. How do you define stupidity? What things within reason does one do to be considered stupid? How do you judge that someone has that slow, dim-witted look or has no sense?
What is the whole essence of stupidity and how could one avoid such a reputation, if such things can be helped? Is stupidity malleable or is one determined to be stupid forever? How should one deal with being stupid once finding out about one’s stupidity?

When someone simply overdoes illogical/dumb/out of sense things and they know they’re doing it.

Stupid is as stupid does (c) Forrest Gump’s mom

I think if you pose that question to yourself, you have yourself the answer.

^ I don’t quite understand. I guess I’m stupid then…

If I ask this to myself, I will get the answer?

Generally a person is considered stupid when they are bad at language and social science subjects. You wont be considered stupid just by being bad at math or so in most circles, its just those who study anything math related who even thinks remotely like that and those still go a lot on the social norms since you can’t just test peoples math abilities on the spot.

I believe that intellect is malleable. It’s proven that those who believe their intelligence can be changed tend to do better in academics than those that believe their intelligence is fixed. The term “stupid” shouldn’t exist. It’s merely a pejorative comment based on one’s subjective idea of intelligence. No one is completely “stupid.” Even those that do not succeed in the academic realm may have talents in vocational skills or arts. Is an English teacher smarter than a blacksmith? No, the two professions are incomparable.

Most people, even those with a high IQ, tend to act illogical with no common sense at some point in their lives. It’s human nature to make mistakes and miscalculate your own judgment. Everyone on this forum has done something illogical in the past.

The only people I look down on are those that have no desire to pursue intellectual stimulation and would rather let their minds rot. Potential is immeasurable.

my high school teacher would make us write 50 other words we could’ve used instead of “stupid” if one were to have been heard using it in his class. seems like it’s just a derogatory term.

^ Interesting. What were the words? The ones I could think of on the top of my head is are unintelligent, unintellectual, slow, dim-witted, ■■■■■■■■ (although that is offense to some), philistine, neanderthal, dull-minded, imbecile, moron…

I think the problem the teacher saw was not the lack of originality in peoples smearing of others…

Oh. Silly me.

What does someone do to be considered stupid?

jumping into a trashcan and knocking the other trashcan full of leftover food onto the floor.
deciding to stuff oneself into a trashcan and not being able to get out.
call a teacher mom.
drink while walking by a policeman
badmouthing a teacher with the teacher right behind- actually happened to me twice. I’m really stupid lol. Thankfully I don’t see them often.

Stupid is subjective.

When someone doesn’t attend a US News top 20 school.

one doesn’t write the title of one’s thread grammatically.

OR

you don’t write the title of your thread grammatically.

I did? How do I get over my stupidity and move on with my life? Should I just drop all intellectual pursuits as they’re now a waste of my time and just do mind-numbing things and party all the time. Ignorance is bliss afterall, right?

no. that, my friend, would be stupid.

intelligence you can develop… you have time…
undoing idiotic things you do when you’re depressed about not being the smartest kid around cannot be undone… is this a serious post?

Since half my school thought I was literally ■■■■■■■■ at one point, yes.

Someone who asks stupid questions?
