how do you put @XXXXX to reply to a specific poster?

When I reply to a post, i notice it does not refer back or quote the post i am trying to answer. I also notice some replies have the @NAME before the reply. How do I go about placing that @ thingy?

You type it as part of the response . e.g. @parentofsix
