How Do You respond to Ultimatums?

<p>Whether it’s from your peers, parents, or anybody.
For example, If you do get into ________college I won’t pay for it… If you don’t smoke I will not be your friend… Anything like that. How do you respond to them? I usually try to find my ways around it, sometimes I might just ignore it. What are your experiences</p>

<p>Everytime I tell my friend he’s stupid for doing something stupid (like eating an old pepper he found on the floor), or ask him for help or something he says “I do what I want” in a very annoying way. I would like to punch him one day.</p>

<p>I have a friend just like that. “I do what I want” isn’t really my motto. I actually got that from my grandmother…she says it all the time…</p>

<p>Well, generally I don’t let my peers manipulate me like that, unless there’s little loss for me or I see potential in manipulating them back.
It really depends on what they’re demanding. If there’s little loss and little discomfort, I’d do it for the favor. However, with something like smoking, I’d ditch them.
As for parents, I usually have a way to reason myself out of it if it’s something I’m uncomfortable with.</p>
