We are a politically active family. Someone is usually running for office. We spend any free time in Oct. door knocking, working the phones, designing and distributing brochures, preparing for debates, attending rallies, etc. Election day is spent at HQ with frantic last minute efforts and then we go as a group to watch the returns and either celebrate or “cry in our beer”. Please vote tomorrow.

I early voted this year, so that is done. I have a dear friend coming into town who shares my political affiliation, so we’ll watch the returns together, probably late into the night if that’s what it takes. I admire those who can go to bed before a winner is declared, I just cannot.

Too bad political posts are not allowed here (but 1,000+ posts on the relative intelligence of blacks vs. Asians ARE) or I’d explain why “everything but marriage” isn’t the same AS marriage…

And Sea-tide; "voters will approve an amendment to remove language in the state constitution that provides for segregated schools and possibly the right to a public education. " Mind boggling that it’s 2012 and that’s still on the books…hope it passes…

I don’t usually pay much attention to elections. This year, I will be very happy when it’s over finally. I will no longer have to answer the door or the phone. Phone was ringing nonstop since summer and lately, they are sending volunteers to knock on the door. Some brilliant campaign personnel came up with a sticker that they can stick on the door if I don’t answer the door. I am sure they are supposed to be safe for paint. In practice, even masking tapes can peel off the paint. I feel mildly violated to have something stuck on my property.

In Florida we’ll probably spend election night waiting in line to cast our votes.

We have no solicitation signs posted and the political campaigns respected that this year. They ignored it in past years. The signs don’t deter all solicitations though.

We’ve received calls from pollsters, campaigns and other groups. In general, my phone is for personal contacts and organizations that I do business with. I make this firmly clear to cold callers.

I have a feeling that the president will not be decided tomorrow night. Just a hunch. I have a feeling that we’re going to have a fiasco and controversy.

I, unfortunately, will not be able to stay up to see how this goes. I have to be at work early on Wednesday. I have to drive back across the state tomorrow night too after voting. I’m going to try to stay as late as I can with my family and then hope that we have some answers by midnight EST (though I’m not holding my breath…)

Voting in Florida is already an outrageous fiasco. Partisan tools rigged voting laws the last couple of years in Florida to suppress the ‘wrong’ kind of voter. I am ashamed as a citizen of Florida what is going on with this election in Florida…it’s a disgrace.

I have absolutely zero tolerance for voting tricks. I heard of a robocall telling people of the other party (and I truly have zero idea which party was doing it- I just heard the tail end of the story on the radio this morning) that their polling place had changed.

I don’t care who you vote for (well, I do, but not here)- the important thing is that every single vote should be cast and counted. It is your duty as a citizen IMO and any underhanded tricks should be promptly prosecuted and jail sentences should be attached. That is how little tolerance I have for this. Too much is at stake and to try to suppress even one voter is unconscionable to me. And that goes for ALL parties and affiliations.

What’s the difference between running a marathon and voting in Florida? voting takes 4 hours longer

I’m a political junkie and I also hate all the political solicitations, but I try to remember that the alternative would be much worse. Pesky 1st Amendment.

Our night will be the same as any other night + vote + haircut appointment (for me). So, it will be vote, haircut, swimming, gym, walking, doing something at home (if feel like), go to bed. Hope that not many dead, Mickey Mouses and people with short memory who forget that they voted already and go again and again, I hope that not many of these types will vote, but not much we can do about them as usually they have more rights than regular voters with regular photo IDs, and unfortunatley they always are on one side, no even distribution there.

 For some facts about this type of voter fraud (it’s virtually nonexistent), start at page 12: http://brennan.3cdn.net/c176576c0065a7eb84_gxm6ib0hl.pdf

“Virtually nonexistent” somehow resulted in very well known cases during last election. One person in my state was convicted for voting mere 74 times just for the pack of cigarrets. He got caught and many did not. And there are very old and well known facts about dead voting in IL in decisive numbers. Well, if we have our head in sand, then everything is peachy. It is better to have it in sand as nothing we can do, just waste of air to worry about it…so you are very correct, I agree.

I’m sure a lot must have been written about that. I’d love to read it.

As would I.

“Too bad political posts are not allowed here (but 1,000+ posts on the relative intelligence of blacks vs. Asians ARE) or I’d explain why “everything but marriage” isn’t the same AS marriage…”

I don’t think that would be political, it would be very informative. But I’m not the judge of that, so…

I’m pro gay marriage, but the perception is there that Washington is a gay friendly state already, with many rights that gays in others states don’t have. I realize it’s not the same.

I’m just not sure about the marijuana initiative, I didn’t vote on that one. Don’t like people prosecuted for smoking or possession of pot, but I just don’t have a warm fuzzy about embracing it with open arms and marketing it.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day. I wish I wasn’t sitting in a hotel room, unable to drink a drop to get me through the stress!

Bd, any possibility of going for a swim or a hot tub at the hotel?
lol

^^Oh sure, romani, but then I’d have to put on a bathing suit. And Lord knows, I have to be drinking wine to be willing to do that!

I have a good book that I’ve set aside for tomorrow evening. Hubby will probably watch back to back Big Bang Theory episodes.

Will wait for the final answer until Weds. morning.

I’m tired of it all…and I’m not even in a swing State. As a matter of fact, my State is pre-decided for probably all foreseeable elections to come :)

I was in Marseille on election day in 2000. I spent nearly the entire next two days trying to explain to baffled French work colleagues how it was possible that the guy who got the most votes wasn’t winning the election.
