After a while, does your skin start to smell like fish?

^^^ If you sweat a lot, you might excrete a slightly fishy smell. Probably not a problem.

That is just horrifically gross!

Not really seeing how algae capsules are more disgusting than fish oil ones. . . ?

Grinding flaxseeds is kind of a pain but it does only take a few minutes and you can put mix them up in your normal meals.

Cooking with Flaxseed oil, EV Olive Oil and Grapeseed Oil is also an easy way to get your Omega 3’s.

lol jym. We give our dog 6 fish oils every evening with dinner. And sometimes he REALLY smells like fish. Then again, we’re using the cheapie stuff from costco. Another reason to try to find the purified stuff…more expensive but worth it.

MP…I read a while back that they’re trying to come up with a fish oil ice cream. Honestly, they already put it in lots of foods…eggs, milk. I don’t taste it but I have decided to go with supplements instead since you don’t get much from the enriched products…

"Suggested Use:
Take 3 capsules 3 times a day.

If my stomach can’t handle 2 capsules once a day, how will I handle 3, 3 tmes a day? "

Barleans is flaxseed oil not fish oil. Maybe better on your stomach.

Actually, I wasnt kidding, toneranger (though I always appreciate a laugh). The smell does sometimes get excreted through the pores- more notable wen someone sweats. I had a friend in grad school (granted this was in the stone ages, so maybe vitamins were of lesser quality??) but he took a ton of stuff like lecithin and fish oils, etc. We were in FL, and … well, I guess I don’t have to tell you. P.U.

BTW, that letter to Barleans is one of the reasons I’m a skeptic about supplements. Totally unregulated industry with ridiculous claims. Bet most companies have received similar warnings.

I figured that flaxseed oil can’t hurt you, and my friend’s husband is a doctor.

I am tempted by the flaxseed oil…maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to smell like flax when I’m on the treadmill?

Here’s an article about PCB’s in fish oil supplements:
[The Truth Behind Fish Oil Concerns - ABC News](<a href=“Lawsuit Raises Fish Oil Supplement Concerns - ABC News”>Lawsuit Raises Fish Oil Supplement Concerns - ABC News)

I am taking the Twinlab Norwegian Cod Liver Oil and have had no problems with burping, smells or anything like that. They’re small and go down easy. I only take one a day. I’m kind of leery of supplements and vitamins, so I never take the recommend daily dose. I eat a lot of fish, so I figure I’m OK.

I take flaxseed oil capsules. One dog is allergic to fish oils so I give both dogs flaxseed oil capsules. We all smell fine. I no longer have dry eye problems.

I don’t have any problems with my supplements at all, and the capsules aren’t huge either. I am taking OmegaBrite.

Missy - I have a very, very sensitive stomach. I switched to the Barleans Essential Woman and while I understand others’ concerns, I can tell a difference in my hair and nails when I use this product. I went off it prior to my root canal extraction and sort of forgot to resume. The last time I went to hair stylist, she asked if I was doing anything differently, my hair seemed thinner.

Anyway - dosage is three caplets. I can take three at once, but usually I just take throughout the day.

Well, I bought the Barleans Flaxseed Oil Capsules My stomach is still upset from what I took last night.

Thanks for the help, everyone!

OK, one more try and it’s not fish oil ice cream :). Check out Fisol. Like the GNC brand I take, the capsules are “enteric coated” - which prevents fish burps and is good for those with sensitive stomachs. It gets absorbed AFTER it leaves your stomach. And the capsules are supposed to be small. Might help. There are other brands that are enteric coated…Fisol is just one.

And honestly, the Coromega orange packets seemed OK to me.

Hope you find something that works!

fish oil pudding? are you trying to make me gag?*

:p

^^I use the Fisol brand. The capsules are SO much smaller than the other fish oil capsules I’ve seen. And my H, who had fish oil burps and upset stomach after other fish oil brands, tolerates Fisol quite well.

Like Emahee, I take OmegaBrite fish oil capsules. They are medical grade, highly purified. I take 4 a day, right after breakfast, and they have never bothered me. I do have problems with multivitamins, which often make me nauseous.

I am having problems with dry eyes. I use ground flaxseeds some mornings in my oatmeal. Is there a difference between taking flax oil capsules and eating the seeds?

Hmmm, my eyes are dry all the time. Maybe I should try something like this sort of thing. Then again, the last thing I need is anything that might upset my stomach. And I sometimes have trouble forcing down the 15 or so prescription pills I have to take every day already, plus vitamins and iron. And after reading that link, I’m not sure that PCB supplements sound very appetizing in the first place! So perhaps I’ll pass.

We grind flaxseed, too. It’s fine in yogurt & smoothies - not as gross as you might think! The health benefits appear to be worth it.
