^I think some kids just are picky. My older son is the worst. We gave him everything when he was little, but one by one he started disliking things. Strangely though his favorite food is vindaloo chicken. For him it’s often a matter of texture. Pasta for example is too slimy and lamb is too fatty. He doesn’t like tags on his clothes either. He also just doesn’t care that much about food. He doesn’t eat nearly as much as most guys. That said, I admit I didn’t feed sushi to my kids at three.

kerrbo–I too am happy to know other couples have food “issues”. I always thought we were just strange. H1 and I never had these problems. We both cooked, we cleaned, we ate–all was fine. H2 has horrible food issues and it has definitely negatively affected our family life. He uses food to control people, he is verbally abusive about food, he throws food, he passive-aggresively comes 10 minutes late when the food is cold, he stuffs his face when he is “starving”, even if supper is literally 3 minutes away, he is very picky about food…and he b****** I don’t want to cook? No wonder…

All the more difficult because I was brought up where supper was on the table at 6, you ate what mother had taken the time to cook, and you appreciated the fact she had done so. I don’t ever remember my dad complaining or not eating, even if it wasn’t his favorite.

My MIL did an absolutely horrid job of instilling manners or discipline into any of her 4 kids. It’s a sad thing when family mealtimes are times of stress instead of times of joy.

Ahhh, I feel better. Not to be Debbie Downer, please continue on…

One thing I find odd is my SIL will plan meals for a month. On the calendar each meal is listed and there is no deviation. What if today is Turkey Tuesday and I really dont want Turkey?? Guess what, she makes it anyway. I would learn to hate mealtime. Life is way to short for this :)
