Good work there, Twisted, I hope you get what you need on Monday, but if you don’t at least you will still have a chance. Fm

Has anybody seen how things are going with regards to singles being left? I am really curious how Monday will turn out. If all the singles on central/hill are taken, they will assign me one out of the rooms reserved for people with health conditions. So by the sounds of it I get no choice in what building I live in unless there is some variety lefto n Monday. I don’t mind hugely, my baseline for potential comfort is met just by having a single on central/hill, but not getting any choice in what building is a little scary. With my luck everything will be full except all girls housing or something.

My daughter chose today. There were quite a few singles, but it is the first day. I think you are able to see the rooms available even before your appointment. You follow the link from your appointment email and on the left side there is a link to search for a room or something like that. It was availabe to view before the appointment time.

Ooh, thanks, I’ll check into that.

I’m a micromanager if you couldn’t tell. I’ll be quiet now. :P

I’m really worried about not getting a single by the time the Housing Office decides to let me choose my room on Monday at 1:40. Already half of the male singles on Central/Hill are taken. Have any older Michigan students/alum had trouble with getting singles that are not on North? Feedback would be great, because I have no desire to let Housing screw me over because of a lottery system, despite the fact that I registered on the first day possible back in January.

If it’s any consolation, there have been TONS of men in singles trying to swap into doubles all year round. It’s been driving me nuts because on the womens swap board it’s all the opposite.

That actually makes me feel a lot better!!! TwistedXKiss, you seem to be a great advocate for yourself, so I’m sure/I hope you can get that single!!

Well, there are four singles in cambridge left which is what I REALLY want, but if I could get into south or east quad I would still be pretty happy. Fingers crossed for both of us.

Let’s just hope I don’t get stuck in newberry or barbour. I considered all girls housing, but I definitely want a bigger environment than that. I’d still be better than a double or being on North, but… ew.

ETA: Where the heck is oxford housing? Apparently that’s considered part of the hill neighborhood.

Oxford is like a 10-15 minute walk from the diag, it’s ALL the way down South U, past the restaurants and all of that, right in the middle of the frats and sororities.

I must have walked past it before and not seen it. That’s nowhere near the hill area?

It looks like all that’s left for girls singles are a ton in east quad, a handful in alice loyd, one in south quad, and a bunch of newberry/barbour. They are going pretty fast. I don’t even see markley up here, will it be closed next year?

Oxford Housing really isn’t in the hill area. It’s just closer to the hill area dorms than any of the other housing. You can go to Michigan for four years and never notice it.

Unless they’ve made major renovations to Markley there are no singles there. Every room is a double. They’re all the same 12 x 12 box.

As expected everything is full everywhere just about. All that is left is 15 singles at East Quad and a page of newberry and barbour. I just got a tour of newberry from a friend that lives there and I actually kind of liked it, but by Monday that may have all filled up.

Markley isn’t even available to look at doubles. My friend told me that she thought you could only get into Markley as a freshman unless you were continuing to live there, I don’t know if that’s true, I don’t know anything about it.

Twisted, I don’t think you would like Markley. Freshman dorm. Enough said?

I do get the impression from you online personality that you might be pleasantly surprised by how much you’d like Newberry/Barbour. Since there is definitely a bias against them, those singles may still be available on Monday, keep your fingers crossed… then of course you have your health accomodation ace in the hole.

Mhm, I am trying to keep an open mind about it. My only concern about it was that I was worried about any rules they may have about male visitors, because my boyfriend is really the only person that ever visits me. My friend that lives there said they didn’t have any rules about it but I am checking to make sure, if that’s true newberry or barbour could actually be a good fit for me. I never imagined I’d want an all girls dorm, I have only ever seemed to make friends with boys-- even in preschool, but that seems to be changing now that I am older. And it’s cool that it’s a house, when I was there I actually just felt like I was in a big house instead of being in a dorm. A more homey feel might be good for me. I’ll just have to plan my meal schedule more reasonably so I have time to go to South Quad or else plan around Barbour’s caf hours.

I wasn’t really interested in Markley, I was just surprised not to see it up there and wondered what was going on. I haven’t heard good things and had thought I should watch it to make sure it’s full so I don’t end up getting stuck there, but I guess it’s a non-issue.

There are 37 male singles left in EQ, which is the only dorm on Central/Hill with singles still available. Does anybody think that EQ is unpopular enough that there will still be rooms available by 140 on Monday? Because a little less than half the rooms have been taken, but I’m worried that they’ll fill up. What time are the first people allowed to pick rooms each day? And there’s no selection on Saturdays and Sundays, right?

Maybe. I liked living in EQ. We went from 15 to like 4 EQ female singles today.

I am trying to confirm whether or not there are male visitation rules at newberry and if they have a male or unisex bathroom to figure out the logistics for when my boyfriend visits. If he is allowed to be there and has a toilet to use I will be happy with newberry. It looks like newberry or barbour is where I will end up, all that is left is a handful of EQ and a whole page of newberry/barbour.

My roommate is a freshman and signed up for themed housing to get into NQ but never did the global scholars application and now it’s full, and rather than getting in on the single/double sign up she is waiting for her friend’s dad to “pull some strings” to get her into NQ anyway. She is going to end up homeless. If she ends up living in newberry or barbour same as me I think I’ll have to bury myself alive.

ETA: Oh, and by a handful I meant two. 15 to 2. And one is substance free. What are the rules regarding 21 year olds in single, non-sub free rooms? I will be 21 next year and though I don’t drink I am vaguely curious.

Twisted, the rules regarding 21 year olds used to be that you would be the one renting the keg. I’m not sure how much this has changed.

Haha, well then perhaps I will keep my age under raps. We are now officially down to ONE room in EQ (substance free), and all the ones at newberry/barbour. So, unless 38 girls really desperate for singles decide they are desperate enough to live in newberry/barbour, then that’s where I’ll be.

I confirmed that newberry DOES have a unisex bathroom, so now all I have to do is confirm the lack of boy rules before I can be comfortable with that option. I am kind of excited. :)

There are hardly even any doubles left. o.O

Twisted, what happens to the rooms that people have reserved but then they don’t sign a contract for by the 25th? Find out, as there may be a way for obsessive types (like ourselves) to get a benefit out of frequent checking for rooms that are released after the contract deadline. I know of one person who is still deciding off campus vs a single, so there are definitely some rooms that will come back on the market.

You may be ok with the backdoor avenue that you found, but jic.
