Pretty much everyone here on CC recommends self-studying for AP Lang and says its one the easiest APs, yet the AP distribution shows only about 30% got 4/5 last test. How easy is it? How does one generally self study it, considering how much reading and analysis a typical AP Lang class on a regular basis?

Totally depends on the teacher I suppose. I wouldn’t recommend self studying it unless you could still get a teacher to score the essays you write. Otherwise you won’t know if you are on the right track. If you can get a hold of past multiple choice questions as well, self study wouldn’t be terrible.

I agree with bookworm, the mc is easy of you are good at reading comp but you have to get used to the types of essays/writing fast. Personally I think I got a 4 though I will not know for two more weeks. I have heard that if you are already taking an honors English class that focusses on times writing it is easier to self study.

I loved AP Lang but mainly because I am a nerd and love, love to read. My class did timed writings year round and multiple choice almost daily the full month before the exam. I’m hoping I did well on the AP test but won’t know for a few weeks… I really enjoyed the course and recommend it to those who enjoy reading.

I really don’t know how people self-study AP language to be honest lol. In my school the class isn’t hard, the students write essays every week on the topics they choose based on the style they learned that week. You can definitely try to self-study it, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

The essays are easy. You either receive a style analysis or argument/synthesis (you get three). A lot of students in my class found the MC passages my teacher gave difficult, but the passages on the actual exam were easier. The actual class itself was easy.

It’s so easy I got a 2 on the exam.
