How easy is it to get into NYU overall? I heard someone with a 2.8 got in? how is tha

Does NYU wait list/defer to spring semester?

How are my chances looking if I’m applying to CAS with a 1900 on SAT and 3.6 UW/4.5W GPA? Is it possible?

Yes there HAVE ALWAYS been people who get into execllent colleges with less than stellar grades and/or test scores

That could come from a number of sources:

 1. the most extensive preferred admissions program ever: legacies (funny how the URM-bashing folks never seem to mention that legacy admissions is a much more widespread admissions preference program AND that schools for decades have ALWAYS let in lower grade students) prior to AA
 2. extraordinary talent as an athlete
 3. extraordinary talent as a musician
 4. extraordinary academic talent not reflected in the grades

The ‘“if you are an URM you get in no matter what and the rest of us are screwed” crap on this thread is - at best -latent racism. Take 2 kids. The former’s parents are non native speaking, work 2 close to mimimum wage jobs to make just about enough to make ends meet, the caregiver at home is grandma who speaks no English, and the student needs to work part-time to help support the family. The latters’ parents are native English speaker professionals earning together over $150k, mom is home everyday after school and the student doesn’t need to work and instead goes to swim team and SAT prep classes.

Which one has an easier time getting that 3.6? Does the first kid have less drive and smarts if they have a 3.1? It’s a lot easier to “score” if you staert on second base.

Okay thanks for the assurance. I’m not too extraordinary or talented though. Only thing I’d say that might stand out is that I’m dedicated to volunteer work (400+ hours) and have illustrated leadership (3 positions in honor socities).

Hopefully NYU reviews hollistically.

URM have it too easy. U do realize there are many Asians in horrible situations like that too right? Yet they still are meeting high standards? But being ORM *s them over more? * URMs

@aarcot

(1) Fencing is NYU’s only Div. 1 sport; which may make a difference

(2) If you look back at posts from people past who were hoping to get into NYU using a sport, you’ll see that those with less than stellar academics have most often been rejected - and that a coach’s recommendation hasn’t carried any significant weight.

(3) To my knowledge, for an applicant to be considered for admission, they must first pass NYU’s academic review (i.e. the admissions committee must first determine that you’re an acceptable candidate for NYU) and THEN other factors come into play - i.e. whether or not you play a sport. This is the same way Stanford works, for example.

Well I have a question, I don’t have a 3.6 GPA. I currently have a 3.15 unweighted and a 4.7 weighted. If I work extremely hard to get an above average score on my SAT do you think I might have a chance to get in? I have all of the extra curricular activities and a rigorous transcript.

I thought it went Stern>Tisch>CAS>everything else.
