I dont know if you guys have heard of netball but its a big sport in the UK and Australia.

I dont think its huge in the states, but I was hoping to get it started there so we can play some friendlies and practice. However it would need netball hoops and netballs. Would it be easy to apply for the equipment to be bought?

And also how would one go about booking the court, getting people signed up etc.?

Thanks!

iridiscent, i will help u with making a netball team!!!

whats netball though?

crap, i’m a male. netball is only for women right?

UVA has a process for this. You have to come up with a plan & a budget, & present it for approval. I really don’t know any details, just that daughter did start a club & was able to get funds appropriated for it. I believe you also need officers but don’t know where in the process that becomes necessary. This would be a good thing to explore at orientation.

It’s very easy to start a club at UVa. You can totally be informal and simply advertise that you’re creating a netball group. But if you want to be more formal in order to get funding, you would have to apply for CIO status. CIO stands for contracted independent organizations. All clubs at UVa are CIOs, and Student Council appropriates money to the different clubs to help them w/ their financial operations.

Here’s the site to apply for CIO status.

Here’s a list of all the CIOs:

Can informal groups represent UVa at inter-college competitions?

I’m not sure. You should ask the Dean of Students Office once you get there.
