How important is the resume?

I’ve started compiling my resume for Purchase, Calarts and Depaul and I can already tell…it’s not that impressive. Limited acting experience outside of highschool productions and even the number of high school productions I’ve done is not too high.

How lage of a role in the decision making process does the resume play?

Honestly, don’t worry. The resume does not play that big of a role in the decision process.

In highly competitive programs (think Carnegie Mellon University or Cincinnati University for example) there are many, many talented students auditioning. In situations such as these, an impressive resume can help make you stand out a bit more. When things are that competitive, you need any edge you can get…

Nevertheless, these schools want people in their program who have potential so that over the course of their four year education the school can help them evolve into polished actors. If you have a good audition, and show ability as well as potential to learn and develop, you will be fine. An impressive resume can be icing on the cake, but it isn’t going to make or break you. Just because someone has a lot of experience doesn’t mean they are necessarily the best choice for the school’s program.

In other words, you’ll be fine. Focus on having a great audition, and that great audition will make up for your lack of a long resume. Good luck!

Hopefully my auditions will make up for it  Thanks so much!
