<p>I’d change the answer to “not necessarily” to all of them.</p>
<p>For example, the coursework in many departments at a public university might be just as demanding as the coursework at Harvard. The difference is that the average GPA at Harvard might be 3.3 vs 2.5 at the public university, and that Harvard expects you to graduate in 4 years while students at the public university can spread their coursework out over 5 years if they need to.</p>
<p>Imo the main difference between a prestigious and an upper-average university is that you are surrounded by (on average) smarter students at the former.</p>
