How likely is it I will be rescinded from UCR? [D grade]

I unfortunately will receive a D in pre calc. I got into UCR for sociology and I have already called an admissions counselor at ucr to tell them and they have made a note on file. I will still be able to obtain a 3.0 gpa even if I receive a D in pre calc but my letter of admission told me I could get rescinded for receiving a D or F in an A-G course. The admissions officer say they might waive/ overlook a D but I am not feeling very confident. Can anyone chance me on how likely I am to be rescinded?

If that is your real name, I would strongly encourage you to change it to something more anonymous. How Do I Change My Username?

Thanks for the concern! I remember receiving something similar when I posed awhile ago. No, this is not my legal name don’t worry!

The decision is up to UC Riverside and they will decide on a case by case basis. It is not uncommon to be rescinded by the UC’s so make sure you have a backup plan in place just in case.

If I am interpreting your post correctly, I am assuming that you’d like to hear, from the posters here, that your overall GPA will save you?

I agree that it’s up to UCR. If you received the admissions letter, that they typically include, about maintaining your GPA and grades, then you are aware that they can rescind.

It’s going to depend on a lot of factors and one of those factors is supply and demand. Students are desperate to get into the UCs from everywhere. You have to prepare for the fact that they may rescind you.

They don’t want you to be at a disadvantage when you attend and don’t want you to start out by struggling in demanding courses. You’re going to have to take more math at UCR. If you’re struggling with pre-Calc now, then you’ll probably struggle there with it as well.

Right now there’s not a whole lot of things that you can do until you hear from them so you shouldn’t spend time worrying about that. You should spend the rest of your term finishing up strongly at your high school. Good luck!

You can offer to take precalc at a local community college in the summer and see if that will convince UCR to waive the D.

What did the AO say was the next step? Did they tell you to put the D in writing? Do you know the timing of their decision?

Meanwhile I would keep a backup option in play by depositing at another school…do you have other options? Although a D could result in rescission at other schools too.
