Oxford University looks amazing! Do many americans attend here? How about St. Andrews University? THANKS
St Andrews is popular in the US, particularly at prep schools in the northeast, given the ever increasing selectivity of the Ivies and similar private universities. In fact, behind the UK (~56% of St Andrews students), the US is by far the best represented country at the university (14.7%), followed by Germany (3.3%), China (3.2%), and Canada (2.2%).
The percentage of students from North America is far smaller at Oxford – only 200 out of 12,000 undergrads (1.7%).
Oxford is a pretty special place, for sure. I spent several months of last year doing research at Oxford and didn’t want to leave. If I could do college all over again and had the funds, I’d choose it over any American school in a heartbeat.
In 2016, 615 applied, 69 got offers, and 40 final acceptances.
What do you consider amazing about Oxford?
architecture and rigor
Rigor in what sense? How much do you know about what undergrad education is like in England or Scotland? Do you know what you want to study?
For an old collegiate uni that is easier to enter, consider Durham as well.
For old Unis with that type of architecture, consider the 4 Ancient Scottish unis and Trinity College Dublin. You’d be blown away by the architecture at Durham, Edinburgh, St. Andrews, and TCD as well, and all 4 of those would be well-respected in the British Isles.
What subject are you interested in, and what are your stats?
OP is 3.5GPA / 28 ACT looking to major in business or finance. Some of the things the OP include:
and
Your AP scores will matter.
Do you have any statistics about US applicants to Oxford medicine? I heard the acceptance rate is close to zero.
Oxford has pretty detailed information on their website about admissions rate by country of origin, and by subject. This is the kind of thing you would be expected to seek out by yourself as a UK undergraduate.
