How many AP classes does the average student take?

By the time senior year is over I counted all of the AP’s which would be somewhere around 15 or 16. And no, Im not one of those kids who took 6 AP’s every year.

Currently I’m a sophomore and I plan on taking 10 ap’s. I guess it just depends on how many ap’s your school offers

Although this is not exactly what you’re looking for, it may shed some light…

How many have you taken each year?

Most students don’t even take a single AP class.
About 900,000 students each year take at least (not necessarily passing) one AP exam.

There are about 3 million high school graduates each year:

People on this forum are very much in an elite minority.

i’m going to be bold and say 0 if you apply the floor function.

hmm the use of the phrase elite minority bothers me… but i think it’s okay.

To be honest, I’m only going to take 7 in my school career. My first to AP classes are going to be next year, my Junior year: AP Biology and AP Chemistry.

Probably average “trying” student 4 or 5

At my school? 0.

Uh. None. I’ll probably have taken 3-5 AP w/ the same range of “college credit” courses (not dual enrollment) by the time I’m done.

None freshman (none available)
6 ap sophomore
1 ap, 7 IB junior
1 ap, 7 IB junior

2 self study (1 not offered at my school and 1 is notoriously hard)

By the time i graduate i want to have 10-16 APs finished.

Lol @asking about average students on CC. Op, I’d say 3-5

“Average” is more like 1-3 but At my school the average is 4 or more

For the smart students in the top 20 at my school the average AP’s taken is 3 or 4. The thing is my school only offers 5 in class AP’s and 3 online AP’s.

I will be taking anywhere from 6-8. I haven’t decided yet. That includes 1 or 2 self-studied.

Legitimate average is about 1 or 2.

This is considering that around 1 in 3 high school students take an AP exam, and close to 50% that do take AP exams only take one AP exam.

Over their high school career…

I think the average american student will take none or one. I think the average college bound, smart student will take one to four over the course of their high school career. Someone headed for an ivy could take around two to six. Some cc kids take a good fifteen.

I think two, maybe three ap classes per year is a good number for a very driven student. Don’t be overwhelmed by the high levels of achievement on cc.

Itt: elitism.

Most people? Probably 1, or even none. I feel like people have a skewed vision on APs here, especially the ones saying that the average is 4-5. Pretty sure no one in my school ever even takes more than 10. And that’s A LOT. The average for the higher leveled kids is probably 4-6, though.
This is the average kid who takes the AP science, AP math, and AP english class for their junior and senior year, of course. Not many do, and those that do don’t necessarily do well all of the time. So remember that difficulty isn’t EVERYTHING (although very important); you have to actually do well too.
As for me, I’ll have 5 or 6 by the time I graduate. That’s without any AP english classes too.

True, now that I look back at it, most of my friends take all regular classes and have no desire to take APs because they feel they’re too hard. I would’ve taken 8 by the time I finish.
