To succeful OOS applicants, how many APs did you have when you got into UVA? Just curious what the ‘norm’ is for successful OOS apps. Also, in whicch state do you live?

fourteen, maryland

seven, New Jersey

8 classes, 9 tests

MD

I got in last yr from PA and I had 8 AP classes but took only 3 tests.

9 aps - 10 chars

I know a few of OOS students there, one took 5 (rich private NY student, legacies out to the wazoo), one 6, one 8, and one 9. So, there’s a wide range, I think it has more to do for GPA of those classes and based on your school (some only offer a few, some offer 20)

I took 3 in my junior year, and was taking 4 more senior year—those are all the APs offered at my school. I think they would prefer evidence that you are a top notch student more than just numbers.
I took 2 AP tests and got a 4 on one of them (the other isn’t worth mentioning).
I live in PA and my school is not well known, rarely sends grads anywhere good out of state, but my cousin from a top school in VA applied and got in last year, so maybe name recognition?

four tests in my “junior year”,and four tests my “senior year”, texas. (btw, I am an early graduate and I go to a public shcool that rarely sends grads out of state).

Does UVA look down upon people that take the AP class and not the test?

1 class last year - took the test but didn’t record score
2 classes this year - going to take both

irishblues: did you not read my post.

4: bio, chem, calc ab, calc bc. all tests except bc. i live in MO. i’m one of those strange cases as a potential jefferson scholar (didn’t work out), but i figured i’d reply!

I did. I was wondering if they prefer students take the class or if they only look at the grade in the class in the admission process. I know that Villanova says that AP Test scores are not considered in the admission process.

I think AP scores only count for credit once you’re here, like SAT IIs, but it can’t hurt to have a 4/5. You don’t send them your scores before sr yr anyways, right? It never hurts to take the exam. Most of the exams I didn’t take were during my sr yr. They do want you taking the most rigorous courseload your school offers.

I am taking all the AP classes my school has to offer but I’m beginning to think that I am studying for APUSH like crazy for nothing. I like history so taking a history class at UVA (if I get in next year) is not a problem.

ush is a test you should definitely take if you haven’t already taken another history ap test as there is a history requirement it meets.

If you get a 4 or 5 on USH, its 8 credits at UVA. Do well on it, and your world will be so much easier at UVA if you end up there…

Ok I’ll continue my studying. :)

Remember that registration is done by credit here, so students who come in with credit might have an easier time getting their top choice classes.
