How many CC-ers know each other in real life?

Kels- I, too, have chatted with Curm on the phone, the pre-med board is very supportive behind the scenes.

I have met Oaklandmom and Mootmom in the Bay area, very nice to meet.

I have met several CC’ers in real life. I also have several that I haven’t met, yet, but would love to one day.

Once I was outbid on a book for my son’s college class on ebay by another CC’er - timely, I believe.

I have met a few CCers. They are LOVELY people.

The funniest non-meeting/meeting: On a specific board a boy was complaining about a school issue. I sort of thought I recognized the high school/class but gave general advice. Several more complaining posts later (about the teacher, the class, his classmates etc) I realized that I knew the kid. And I knew that he was perhaps not evaluating the situation correctly. (Please read this as he wasn’t as truthful as he could have been…)…there was general outrage by the parents who read his posts. All good CCers who, if the information given were true they would have been spot on.

I made a joke which clearly indicated (not to anyone but the poster) that perhaps I knew who he was, and what the real issue that was in question. Silence ensued with CCers questioning where he was. He came back a few hours later with a Roseadanna…Never mind.

When I was out walking the dog the next day I saw him. I did the usual wave…and he laughed and said, “It’s confidential…right?” Yep.

I met a CCer whose S goes to the same college as mine. We met for drinks after move-in. As I was sheepishly explaining to my DH about how we were going to meet my “imaginary friend,” I was reminded of the scene in the movie “Julie & Julia” where Julia Child meets her longtime pen pal Avis DeVoto for the first time. They had corresponded for years but had never met in person. I told my DH that I felt like Avis meeting Julia (the CCer is a gourmet cook). When we arrived at the bar for cocktails, the TV over the bar was showing a rerun of an old Julia Child show! It was an omen! And the CCer was truly delightful.

I started meeting my “imaginary friends” from another message board back in 2000 or so. The first meetup with just one person was in LA, and I was bringing along my then 7 year old daughter as we were also going to Disneyland. The woman was reassured about the IRL meeting as she figured an axe murderer probably would not be bringing her young daughter along (unless it was for training purposes). To this day (we are FB friends), she refers to my D as “the littlest axe murderer”.

Have met several CCers IRL – one who lived nearby and several at S’s freshman drop-off. There were 5 of us on the “College Class of 2013” thread with sons attending the same school. We met up in the main quad surrounded by hundreds of other parents, students, etc. Couldn’t be much safer!

I’m also FB friends with a bunch of CCers – so not quite real life, but almost.

I have met several cc’ers, and many have been unbelievably kind and helpful. But IMO, by far the one who will forever win my personal award for the kindest, most generous ccers who went out of her way to help me in a time of grief and stress, was CountingDown. I take every opportunity to thank her. She is a gem.

One of the beauties of this site is the opportunity to get to “know” people, and to help each other out. Many have been kind with their offers and assistance, and I have been happy to reciprocate whenever I can . I am having a cc’er and her family for Thanksgiving again this year!

I met and became great friends with another cc mom when our girls attended USNA together. Have met a few others accidently and correnspond with several as well. Its been a wonderful forum to share our similiar challenges with this stage of our lives.

Not “imaginary friends” – but “virtual friends.”

A couple of years back I met up I met up in Edinburgh with Yulsie – another poster who’s no longer active. She was from the DC area, I’m from the London area and we were both in Edinburgh for the Fringe – her son (an Oxford student) was performing with the Out of the Blue acapella group, my daughter (who ended up at Oxford the following year) was performing in a play. My son and I went to her son’s concert; she and her son attended my daughter’s play. We corresponded for a few years (mostly about dogs!), then lost touch. I miss her but I have a feeling our paths will cross again as both our offspring are making their way in the theatre world.

Expect Roger to add “X Years Reunion” shirts to the College Confidential catalog soon! By the way, those “mommy-reunions” should be taped and youtubed. :)

jym, thank you for your sweet post! I am still planning to meet up with you in your neck of the woods. May be coming down in early Nov. to see my parents. We should talk…I need to pick your brain on parental stuff.

I have a couple of RL friends who are longtime posters here, and have met another poster at Parents’ weekend at my son’s college. I’ve pointed several RL friends to CC. I think they may be lurking but not posting. I also correspond with several posters who have similar interests, geography, and/or kids at my sons’ colleges.

I helped one young CC poster from the East Coast run errands during her first week at Stanford - hard to do without a car, and I’m close by.

CD- I am more than happy to have the opportunity to begin to return the favor. Let me know how I can help

I have met a few CC’ers in real life, all good folks. Non recently, though. Maybe time to meet some more!

Just read your post, ellebud. I admire how you handled that one. Very classy.

I’m married to another CCer, so I guess you could say we know each other in real life.

The closest thing I came to meet somebody from CC is when I purchased a essay book written by Harvard students. Read the book and recognized one student whose both parents are on CC. I googled his name and found his picture. :D

Never been outed. Have decided I am now OK with meeting online friends IRL, so hope to meetup with a couple soon.

My kids tease about my “make-believe friends” on CC.

I call you all my “cyber buddies” and my kid sorta understands. He was happy to host any prospie I found on CC.
