Actually, I had someone sit on the other side of my office desk and not know it was me… and I said nothing. But yes, have met a few CC’ers though not specifically through or because of CC. Left CC for several years (actually was kicked out and then left voluntarily!) but now back in anticipation of #3. I will be on the lookout for the ‘tell tale signs’ in the college visits next summer…

I’ve met a few CC’ers during orientation for D1 (we planned it!) and then I completely freaked out DH & D2 when I enthusiastically walked up to random people during Parent’s Weekend (including in a hotel parking lot) whom they had never seen before.

I also thought that another CC’er traveled in my same circles based on some posts. I sheepishly messaged to find out that this was true & that we had mutual friends and memberships. I’ve since met her IRL and she is lovely ;)

A couple of years ago, I recognized a real-life friend on CC because of a couple of specifics she posted on her kids. I have never let on. And since her youngest is now a college senior, she hasn’t continued to post. Around the same time I recognized a hs senior from our school who complained about his FA package from Northwestern. I cautioned him in a private message to be careful with the personal details and his identifiable screen name.

One of the CC folks with whom I am also FB friends, is also FB friends with the wife of my high school boy friend. Now that’s weird!!

I almost met a CC’r while going thru Washington DC - she offered me a place to stay while coming thru. Turns out we didn’t need it because we were only there for the day. But after my daughter left a package and jacket there during a museum evacuation during the earthquake, she graciously offered to pick it it up and mail it back.

I steered someone from my online running forum to CC and now she is a Moderator!
(We have met IRL)

Would have liked to have met latetoschool.

Ellebud and Vulture have emailed/Fb’d re Breast Cancer issues and were so helpful. I feel like I met them but actually havent.

DowntoEarth: Thank you. And you have been so helpful as well, in SO many ways. If you are ever in my neighborhood we must meet. And I hope that if I come to your neighborhood we can get together.

We are a marvelous community of helping and kind people, if I do say so myself.

I’ve met several CC people IRL. It’s disconcerting when you meet a group for the first time and you try to remember their real names and their background stories. Looking forward to more meet-ups in the future!

I met one CC’r for a one-on-one lunch a few years ago, and a group of 5 of us got together on another Saturday for lunch. It was fun.

One CC’r and I kept running into each other on certain threads because our kids’ top choice schools overlapped. After a few PMs we became Facebook friends. Our kids ended up at different colleges, but now her younger D is looking at colleges. They were touring my D’s college and based on FB pictures the CC’r recognized my D walking down the street near the college bookstore! She called out her name and my D stopped, then the mom had to explain that she was my FB friend. I’m so jealous that D met her before I did…

Kathiep, I’m always a little sorry that meeting up in China didn’t work out as we had vaguely discussed. It would have been a blast!

Did anyone meet Late to School?

I am pretty sure some people back east did get the chance to meet LTS in person, seems like it was mentioned on the red show thread.

I’ve detected one of my inlaws here. Two funny things: 1, she’s adamant in person about her privacy, says she’d never get a FB account because of it, yet has revealed enough personal info in 2000+ posts here so that anyone who really wanted to could identify her, and 2, she “enhances” things in her and her kid’s lives quite a bit.

Stumbled upon a classmate, and apparantly another classmate stumbled upon me.

Another time, I was helping out a student who was planning on transferring to my HS.

I steered one friend here whose DD was 2 years younger than mine. I told her how helpful the info was compared to what you could get from guidance councilors for an arts related admission. Another CCer and I had DD going through the undergrad admission at the same time. We PM’d each other. DD’s went to different undergrad schools but we kept in touch periodically. Now hers has gone to grad school where mine is. They have met each other but we haven’t yet
I believe that some comment about - oh - I know you - your mom and mine are on that school site - was made. .

Just recalled that several years ago I recognized a student from my son’s high school who was expressing severe problems with her parents. I notified the head of the upper school. He had been previously aware of the issue but was not aware that it was continuing.

tsdad: There are good people out there who care about every kid. I’m glad that I “know” several of those people. You are one of them.

I, too, would have enjoyed a lunch or three with LTS.

I’ve talked to a few folks on the phone (as I can’t type for beans). Met one occasional poster at Rhodes College. Great fun, charming lady. Met a cc med school dad and a cc med student who were both downright “instrumental” in my understanding of med school admissions.

Hmmmmm.

My kid has hosted a couple of kids of cc parents at UG and at med school. No duds there, either. ;)

Curmudgeon, all I can say is I am MUCH saner about IRL contact now than I used to be:). Also, my daughter is still focused on medical school. Doing night classes at Drexel. Oh. My. Gosh.

Hey, Alu. I still don’t get on “myface or spacebook”. Privacy, ya know.

I had two chances to meet some other folks. One time I think I had the conflict. The other larger gathering was only 30 minutes from me. I could have made that one but it fell apart. I don’t travel much these days.

Obligations keep me home more now than ever before.
