How many clothes are you taking?

Oh, ansar, you’re such a minimalist and a realist. It’s refreshing.

Whether you can fit it and whether there is any rational reason to actually haul that much clothing around are two entirely separate issues.

True story, Ema. I can probably fit a giant poofy jacket in my closet this year with the rest of my clothing…However, in Cincy, there’s not quite a need for such a thing, particularly during the fall semester, so why would I bring it just cause it fits and there might be a freak snowstorm that I might need it for? Same goes for the boots…if they’re winter boots, not even Kent State in northern Ohio gets hit hard until after winter break (which I know from friends).

I had a ton of clothing when I went home last year and it was hell to transport it all, clothes get REALLY HEAVY when you have too many. Like I said earlier, I still wear most of my fall wardobe in winter, so in winter time I add sweaters and such but don’t take away much, and then I bought a bunch of new clothes while I was there, and I ended up seriously having a hundred pound bag of clothes to haul down four flights of stairs-- and I never even wore a lot of it because I’d wear my 10 or so favorite outfits over and over again after I did laundry. And then putting them away when I got home took weeks because I had to process all kinds of laundry and it just took effing forever. It is so not worth it for me to overdo it. You can have a more than sufficient wardrobe without having to go minimalist and without having to bring 80 shirts.

Happy medium. =) I wish I could reach there…but as of right now I’m bringing most of my clothes with me cause I procrastinated on packing haha.

I wish I could bring more of my clothes etc… but car space is limited for me and over half of my clothes are missing or destroyed. I still have extra money I can spend from my checkings account ( most of the money is from my open house) so things I can’t bring due to space I can just purchase similar items at my destination.

i’ve been wondering how necessary it is really to bring sandals for the shower? it wouldnt gross me out not wearing sandals, but really what are the chances of me getting something bad like warts?

^ If you are living in suite/hall style dorms, the custodians will clean it every day (minus weekends). Chances are, you won’t necessarily get anything bad. I’ve never heard of any horror stories. But it’s not something worth risking because I doubt an old pair of flip flops would take up much space.

I got a $2 pair of rubber flip flops from target which did the job. You’re going to want to wear shoes of some sort to get to the bathroom anyway, your slippers will get FILTHY if you wear them in the halls and to the bathroom (i know, I did it and had to throw out my slippers at the end of the year)-- and if you don’t wear any shoes at all, all that filth gets on your feet instead. And even if the custodians do clean, youre trusting that none of your hallmates pee in the shower. :stuck_out_tongue: Our showers were gross because there was always hair on the floor, even though I saw the custodians clean every day. Girls shed, apparently. And they throw their old bandaids and make up removal pads on the floor. Even with daily cleaning, it was not pleasant.

we have 3 practices a day during preseason. preseason is 6 weeks long. then 2 practices a day for the rest of season.
yes some shorts can be worn a few times, but having time to do laundry is minimal.
i also sleep and hang out in athletic shorts.

I’m taking everything except my winter coat (and scarves/gloves/boots), a few excessive “formal” looking jackets, half my dresses (I only own 6, mind you), and a few skirts (I don’t wear skirts unless required).

Which means I’m bringing:

10-15 T-shirts (I’ve never counted)
3 button-up shirts
5 camis (I sleep in them too)
6 tanks (I sleep in these also)
3 dresses (a sundress, a semi-formal, and a formal)
2 formal/professional looking shirts
7 Pairs of Jeans
5 Pairs of shorts (I sleep in shorts too)
2 pair of capris
2 pairs of “professional” looking pants
A unknown number of pairs of socks (I don’t think I ever counted)
A couple belts
3/4 light jackets
My only bathing suit
A workout top
A pair of exercise shorts

And, well, all my underwear and bras.

I actually don’t own that much clothing to begin with. Maybe three weeks of clothing if I reuse my jeans/shorts a couple times?

Are we counting shoes too?

I’m taking:

1 pair of reg. boots
1 pair of rain boots
1 pair of converse
1 pair of tennis shoes
4 pairs of flip flops (one for shower shoes)
3 pairs of heels (for professional stuff/dresses/etc.)

I should probably note: I don’t wear long-sleeved shirts. I just hate the feeling. So in the winter/fall, I wear short-sleeved shirts with coats/jackets, which drives up my amount of clothing a bit…

It’s a bit ironic because I look at the clothes and think “Man…I think I’m taking a lot”.

Then again, after seeing the people on this thread, jeez! My luggage is going to be one of the lighter ones, I guess :D

I’m impressed that you guys are so organized in listing stuff. I’m taking whatever will fit in my suitcases without putting them over the airline weight limit, as well as shipping at least one box to myself. This includes probably well over a dozen pairs of shoes and 15 or so pairs of jeans. Say what you want, but I have an extensive wardrobe, and I cut back in other areas :)

Cross, shower shoes are really only necessary in community style bathrooms. As someone else said, if you are in suite style housing you’ll be fine without them.

i have no idea

SUPER PROCRASTINATION

ha i just dont like having to wear sandals to shower and stuff, but i guess i prob should at least wear them to the shower, cuz it is true, a lot guys might pee in the showers and that would be gross to not wear sandals

I had a community bath last year and honestly never wore shower shoes once. I just feel weird being naked with shoes on.

As for how many clothes–too many. I own at least 50 dresses and am bringing upwards of 30, probably 30-40 tshirts, 9 Nike shorts, 3 jean shorts, 5 pairs of jeans, 3 fleece jackets, 2 winter coats, assorted underwear, and my Miles Austin jersey
Plus shoes? Probably… 20 pair. Five sandals/flip flops, five heels, two boots, two rainboots, three flats, two day sneakers, and one pair of workout shoes. And that’s paring it down (a bit) from last year. I just HATE doing laundry, and online shopping is a problem for me. Ah well. I will wear all of it at some point.

Cross-are you a guy? Cause either your a guy or you misunderstand how community style bathrooms work. Guys and girls don’t typically share bathrooms…for obvious reasons.

Ha, I am a guy and I do understand how they work. I guess my post didn’t seem real clear.

It was just a clarification of gender lol. Personally I never lived in community style, so I never had to deal with it…but it doesn’t hurt to bring a pair of shower shoes just in case.
