How many people are waitlisted for Williams College transfer admission

I just received a letter saying I was waitlisted for transfer admission to Williams College. As a non traditional student who’s returning to academia, I actually take this as a win. I understand that Williams is extremely selective, but I was curious if anyone knows how many transfers Williams waitlists every year? Is this even something to be proud of, or is it something like with their regular decision applicants they waitlist 500-600 (per their website). My letters also said that about 500 applied for transfer. Just curious if anyone know! Thanks!

Unfortunately, Williams does not list WL for transfer.

For first year students (if it might be a reference), in the latest CDS, they admitted 1145 and offered WL to 1606 (you see how that works). Their # (5-600) is who accepted (637) - but they offer to even more than they admit - which many schools do. Ultimately, 3 were admitted…that’s just a one year # so it could alter year to year (from the 23 24 CDS).

To answer you specifically, 476 applied for transfer admission with 15 admitted and 13 enrolled.

Unfortunately, they don’t appear to offer insights to their transfer wait list.

Hopefully you have some wonderful opportunities - so I suggest you jump on the WL (if it’s a top choice) and then clear Williams from your mind and get giddy about the other offers - as you’ll likely be enrolling at one.

Best of luck to you.

Tagging @TennisParent who is a Williams expert. I would be very surprised if Williams waitlists a large number of transfers.
Good luck!

The OP was waitlisted as a transfer applicant.

Yes - and I noted this in my response - thank you.

I provided data that was available to maybe see their patterns, provided transfer admission data and noted that they do not provide transfer data.

It may (or may not) be telling for OP to see - any data - they provide - and that’s why I put it and noted what it was (not directly related).

These are the first words from my post:

“Unfortunately, Williams does not list WL for transfer. For first year students (if it might be a reference)”

Thank you.

Would love to hear their perspective!

@TennisParent any insight?

The trend has been to be more upfront with applicants and to reduce the waitlist to a smaller group which would have been admitted but there was no room and were a very good fit otherwise in terms of shaping the class. This way the applicants can move on and focus on the next school.

How can I best show continued interest/what’s the best way to get off the waitlist and admitted?

For transfers, it seems like it is very difficult since the numbers are so small, if there is anything that makes you uniquely a match for Williams that may have been missed?

Yes absolutely. Here is a link that describes my very unique situation.

Interesting thread - I remember.

What are your overall results? Maybe you can go there and post.

If you don’t go to Williams in other words (likely the case), then where?
