Some of my friends are concerned because several tour guides at CAL were completely unaware that they had the most famous Congresswoman in the United States. Do they teach political science or government at CAL?

I’m pretty sure Pelosi is the most famous congresswoman at this moment.

What?

.

I knew Barbara Lee before Nancy Pelosi, probably because I’m from the East Bay.

who’s barara lee

Barbara Lee speaks for me!

Actually, I’m not in her district, but I thought she was generally well-known nationally for her progressivism.

yeah pretty sure pelosi’s more known

I don’t know how someone gets out of high school in the United States without knowing who Barbara Lee is. That should be grounds for revoking admission.

Here’s how to address those who claim to have never heard of Barbara Lee.

Did you ever hear of 9/11/01? It was a day when some airplanes were supposedly hijacked by 19 hijackers, 7 of whom have come forward and have been photographed alive since that day.

None of the 19 alleged hijackers were from a country known as Afghanistan. Afghanistan is this place in the Middle East through which Unical wanted to build a natural gas pipeline. It is in the Congressional record. Natural gas is something that is used to heat a lot of homes in the United States.

Though Afghanistan never attacked the United States and nobody from Afghanistan was even alleged to be on any of the four supposedly hijacked airplanes, George W. Bush and certain members of Congress, a group of leaders who claim to run the country, decided to attack the country that had never attacked us.

There was a vote in Congress to attack Afghanistan. Only one member of Congress thought it would be a bad idea to attack a country that had never attacked us. That member was Barbara Lee.

Barbara Lee has been the most famous member of Congress since 2001 and she represents Berkeley.

Pelosi is little more than a figurehead for war profiteers, AIPAC and Blackwater. Cindy Sheehan ran against her for Congress last year and the Secretary of State would have us believe that San Francisco forgot to vote in the Presidential election of 2008. Gavin Newsom is Pelosi’s nephew. Pelosi pressured Congress to finance the war and finance torture that she knew about. Pelosi also pushed a bill through the House to allow any school employee to strip search any students at will. That bill was killed in committee in the Senate. Lynn Woolsey of Marin County and George Miller of Contra Costa County and Solano County spoke against the bill.

When relatives of servicemen serving in Iraq came to Pelosi’s San Francisco office to ask her to defund the war, she had them arrested for just entering the front door of the office building.

Pelosi is pro death penalty, pro war and pro big business. The conservatives on campus should love her.

Funfun, I must say that your gratuitous insults, unqualified assertions, and radical politics not only have no place on this board, but also misrepresent this school as polarized and intolerant. Kindly keep your political evangelism to yourself.

Krysaio, at least I know something about government and the people who are in Congress. This is all something that should be part of a basic education.

The stuff about 9/11, the vote on Afghanistan and the vote on HR 5295 of 2006, the strip search bill, are matters of public record.

I know Nancy Pelosi, personally, and can attest to everything I have said regarding her record.

There is nothing partisan about what I have said. You can speak with Democrats and Republicans, alike, and get the same information.

Ah man, you guys are all so naive.

Don’t taint the already tattered Republican party with Nancy Pelosi. Wasn’t it the Democrats who were excited when she won speaker of the house in '06? Now we have a selfish ***** who stopped impeachment procedures against Bush to gain political favor and spends her time criticizing foreign countries as if she was the secretary of state instead of giving a damn of her crippled congressional district. Worst ***** in the history of the United States. I’m sure even Sarah Palin would do a better job.

is she a politician or something? not following…

really this is not the place to talk about politics

That’s sad. I’m a liberal and a democrat (heck I’m even a berkeley democrat) but the reason we invaded afghanistan was because foreign fighters were training in afghanistan. While no afghans attacked the US people trained in afghanistan did. I’d hope that someone coming to berkeley would know that more than I’d hope the tour guides knew one congresswoman.

Terrorists have no nation, which is the hard part.

But Afghanistan was the right war to be fighting.

Regardless of anyone’s personal views on 9-11 and subsequent wars, I think it’s pretty obvious that Barbara Lee is clearly NOT “the most famous Congresswoman in the United States” – since most people have never heard of her!! She’s definitely not well-known to people living outside California.

If she’s so famous, why have so few people heard of her? Somebody who is famous is by definition somebody that people have heard of.

Hellohihi, funfun and AznN3rd have done their homework. The other posters better hope they are not in any bell-curved classes with these guys.

Most hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. If the war were about 9/11, the first target would have been Saudi Arabia. It was about the pipeline.

The U.S. did not learn from history. Russia tried to control Afghanistan and failed. Now the U.S. is doing the same.

Thousands of Americans and millions of innocent civilians have died because uneducated people in this country allowed greedy extremists to take the United States to war for profits.

I was hope this thread is not representative of the students at Berkeley.

Most well educated Americans have heard of Barbara Lee.

If you’re trying to imply that we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan purely for profits, that’s utter ********.

I can assure you that the Bush Administration, as incompetent as it was, did not decide purely because they wanted to make money. A more believable answer would be that the Bush Administration wanted a show of power to remind the world that America is still on top, but definitely money was not the main issue here.
