How many trick or treaters do you have?

We had 2!!! I was surprised we had any as it has rained most of the day. We will have tons of candy left.

I love seeing the little ones dressed up.

I think about 55 or so–18 minutes to go! Last year I had about 35 kids, so I bought less candy this year. I had to be less generous than usual. Usually give two pieces, this year one. 15 minutes…11 pieces of candy. I should be safe. (My NYC apartment building limits trick or treating to 5-9 pm)

In the good old days…I used to get about 150 but my building has aged.

I bought waaaay too much candy. I thought since it was Saturday and there is no rain and it’s rather warm I would get 100+ kids. I have gotten only 30 and it’s almost 9 pm. I bought about 15# of candy and I was letting the kids take a handful. I’ll bring a lot to work and maybe have some for Thanksgiving.

Lots! About 80 kids so far. First Halloween in this house, so didn’t know what to expect. Just sent DH to get more candy. Unusually warm night here, so I put out tiki torches and tea lights in glass containers: a big hit. Some of the little ones are too distracted by the tea lights - they’re more interested in blowing out “the candles” than the candy. Ha! Innocence!

We live in a huge neighborhood, and kids come from others. However, I don’t live on one if the main streets so typically get 20-30, less on cold years. Some of my neighbors get hundreds.

i made over 130 bags. All gone by 8:15pm. i honestly don’t believe I get that many trick or treaters. Some kids must be grabbing a lot more than one bag, like grab everything that will fit in two hands. As I was turning the lights off, I overheard one kid saying he never gets candies from my house.

What time do you time off the lights? We usually leave them on until 10:00 but since D is at a party tonight I was thinking of leaving them on until she gets home (10:45-11:00) since I’ll be up anyway if we still have candy left. Or is that just asking for trouble? We’re at 125+ TOR’s at 8:00pm here. The peak so far has been between 7:30 and 8:00 with several large groups.

Friday night was trick or treat night here, and we didn’t have any. When we first moved here we had 100. We’re all growing up/getting older.

  1. We shut down at 9, but we left the last of the candy in a bowl out front so that number may climb by up to a dozen. We give out full size candy bars, snack packs of goldfish and glow necklaces. It's easy to keep an accurate account because no one takes more than one food treat. We've had as many as 800 in a year when our area had a major storm and the towns around ours lost power and had to cancel Trick or Treating out of safety concerns. If the weather had been bad we could have been left with two or three hundred candy bars. We sit on our porch because there's no point in going inside, the kids come in such frequent waves.

Just turned the lights out. Still have more than half a BIG bowl of candy left over. We had maybe 30-40 kids. Its been geting less and less each year. They have a party in the neighborhood for the little ones. Then they probably call it a day.

I have to admit the treat I’m most looking forward to is photos of my grandbaby trick or treating. Grandma bought the costume :)!

None.

@raclut, we make 80 treat bags. I can’t afford 80 bags of candy.

It’s 6:17 and I’ve had 5 trick or treaters. Ordering a pizza.

Wow, how do you get 800 kids???

ONE! One little toddler with parents in tow. Yelled “boo” really loudly when I opened the door so I jumped back, feigning surprise. He yelled “boo” again, so I jumped back again. On his 3rd "boo,’ his Dad finally piped up that it was enough. I think our houses here are a little too far apart for ideal trick or treating. I used to send my kids to their friends’ neighborhood, which was much more conducive. Every year I think about whether or not I should buy any candy.

394 - Not as many as usual. Kind of surprised because unless it rains we are always over 400 and tonight is wasn’t raining and was quite night out… Our subdivision has 160 houses in a 1 mile circle so a lot of people come here that don’t live in the subdivision.

We are still going here. I have not been counting, but there have been many. I answer the door in a scary costume which the kids have seemed to really like. However, my dog has been inexplicably afraid of me ever since I put it on.

We live in the center of town in a neighborhood known to love Halloween. When new neighbors move in one of the first things they’re told is to be ready for the onslaught of Trick-or-Treaters. My neighbors and we dress up our houses for the holiday. Mine’s the spider house, with giant spiders crawling all over it. Every year I envision the report in the town newspaper about the woman who fell out of her 3rd floor window trying to hang up a 6 foot long spider. :)) It hasn’t happened yet, thank God.

The 800 happened in a year when we had an ice storm on the 29th or 30th. Every town around us lost power, but because we have a tree warden and our own light plant we were spared. Neighborhood kids invited their friends, and families in walker-unfriendly neighborhoods brought their kids to ours.

It’s only 3:34pm, so we haven’t had any trick-or-treaters yet. We have had fewer and fewer as our neighborhood has aged as well. Our side of the street tends to be dark, so they don’t usually bother with our house anyway. I have Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies in two-packs that I may give, or individually wrapped macadamia nut candies–the balance of which I will take with me on my trip to give out to new friends. I think D and H want me to save the cookies, so I may just give out the mac nut candies (which I have more of anyway).

My nephew (only 3 years old) had 2 adorable custumes–Cookie Monster and Storm Trooper. He’s already had a party with his pre-school where they had a parade and then went to 5 businesses near the preschool and got LOADS of treats. I believe he also went with his cousins trick-or-treating as well, at a shopping center. Not sure if he will be going door to door or not. We were supposed to be going to a football game tonight but H has a lame foot that we want to have heal before we leave for our trip on Monday. He woke up with the heel VERY sore, but not red, hot or swollen. We are somewhat mystified. He took some anti-inflamatories as well as some Benedryl (in case it’s an allergy).

Most anticlimactic Halloween ever: only six kids in all. This was probably good for the dog, though; she seemed quite alarmed when I handed out candy to these few trick-or-treaters.

Only 4 in 2 groups so far but it’s only 6:45. It’s been raining which has tamped down my expected numbers. It isn’t cold, though.
