I spent around $60 so far, but still have a lot more stuff to buy.

I am currently in the middle of choosing some of my college essentials. Perhaps you guise can help?
I need help picking some new bedsheets. I have picked some that have caught my interest on the interwebz

SLEEP WITH SEXY CAT GIRL NOZOMI KIRIYA BED SHEET RARE!
This is the neko girl from Mayoi Neko Overrun! I like the artist in the manga, but its sorta meh. Pose is rank A though. Also shes a dandere

SLEEP WITH SWEET JAPAN MAID GIRL BED SHEET RARE!
This is clearly influenced by Misaka from episode 19 of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun where all the students in Tokiwadai dressed up as maids for their school festival. There are no official Railgun bed sheets I can find, so this is the next best thing. The pose is sorta meh. Maid costume too generic and not revealing enough. rank B

Spice and Wolf Bed sheet A Holo TAKI PSL
A very detailed bed sheet depicting Horochan sitting on Kraft Lawrence’s wagon from the early scenes of season one. Art is beautiful, rank SS. Also this would go great with my horochan hugging pillow that patton gave me, and If I get a horochan head pillow, and I have the entire set. See below for possible complication with the background. Also expensive as gerbils.

Super Sonico bed sheet 2 set NEW
Super Sonico. I don’t care much for it, but its Frank’s Waifu and he’d be jelly if I had this.

SLEEP WITH SEXY CAT GIRL SERIZAWA FUMINO BED SHEET RARE
Another Neko bedsheet. Surprisingly a lot of merchandise for an anime series that was pretty horribad.
This ones the lead heroine, and tsundere. You can tell because she wears the perfect 4:1:2.5 gold ratio of skirt to skin to socks.( zettai ryouiki )
Once again a rank A pose.

Toradora! Bed Sheet A. Taiga & Ami 210x110cm US Seller
This bedsheets depicts my two favorite favorite female characters from Toradora. However, there are two animus sharing one sheet, so I’m afraid it might feel impersonal at night.

Toradora! Bed Sheet B. Taiga 210x110cm US Seller
This bedsheet doesn’t have the flaw of the previous one, however it also doesn’t have Ami.

SLEEP WITH SEXY CAT GIRL CHISE UMENOMORI BED SHEET RARE
Another Mayoi Neko Overrun! character. This time its the type B tsundere Ojousama. There was a time when animus didn’t rub tsundereness endlessly in your face.

SLEEP WITH SWEET SEXY GIRL ANIME BED SHEET JAPAN RARE!
I am pretty sure this is Misaka. Its not labeled as Railgun, but it looks like misaka

If you guise have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Price is no object, only I would like the background to be white. This way any stains that may accidentally occur will be harder to see. I like to drink milk before I sleep and sometimes it spills on my bed.
Also no Yaoi. Yaoi is gay.

Also anyone know if theres going to be a Mami Tomoe bedsheet coming out soon? If there were, it would go well with my Mami Tomoe Minitowel and diary

By diary I mean journal

Dude, you’re giving anime fans a bad name…

I spent about $300

FrickenHamster - Go with the Spice and Wolf. It’s so boring you will fall right to sleep at night.

As for me, I received everything as gifts, but I would venture to guess it was a few hundred dollars. I’m doing the shopping thing a second time around for my senior year since I will be an RA and want my room to be inviting, and in total the stuff I have purchased so far, or that has been purchased for me by my boyfriend, has been about $200.

I’m an incoming freshman; so far, I’ve bought…

Bed sheet - $20
Laundry bag - $10
Brita filter pitcher - $25
Plastic container - $15
Lock (for bathroom lockers) - $5

So ~$75. I think I’m done with dorm shopping.

I didn’t think of any practical stuff I needed for college so I showed up without sheets or anything. I ended up spending about 10 dollars on sheets from Target and got pillows for free from someone. My housemate also gave me bedrisers and I got a fan for free. I don’t remember what I spent on a comforter later in the year though but it wasn’t much. My school had a free box system where each dorm had a “free box” where people put stuff they didn’t use anymore so you ended up not absolutely HAVING to buy much, I guess I was lucky.

I think it was somewhere around $300-$400.

$500 so far but I’m including room stuff like bedding, toiletries, school supplies, clothing, a printer, luggage etc. I never travel so I never needed a suitcase and my mother insisted on me getting a trunk that locks.

Bed in a Bag Set: $37
Extra Sheet Set: $13
Mattress Pad and Pillow Set: $20
6-Piece Towel Set: $20
Hamper: $10
Plush Blanket: $16

All from Walmart. After taxes and shipping were included, order was about $138. I’ll buy a desk lamp and surge protector at the Target near campus

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC App

It seems like there’s a lot to get for a freshman, but the pricier stuff should last for four years.
Mattress pad: $84
sheets: $20
hair dryer:$15
ethernet cords: $10
surge protector: $10
towels: $18
shower tote: $12
shower shoes - 2 pair, 2 dollars

There’s lots of little miscellaneous stuff, over-the-counter meds like Aleve and stuff like toothpaste and soap, tape, paper towels, and classroom stuff like mechanical pencils. Will be getting that next week.

It’s worth it to splurge a bit on a mattress pad (if you’re used to having a really soft bed) and some decent sheets to last you, but avoid falling into buying all the nooks and crannies that BBB sells.

My son and I also went halves on an alarm clock/ipod dock. I think providing the basics during freshman orientation week will be good, and as he continues to live on campus, he may decide if there’s anything additional he’ll need.

I think total I spent about 300 on everything. This doesn’t include a shower caddy, towels, a desk lamp, a trash can and some storage bins that I got free when my sister’s school redecorated the room they show to tour groups! XD

KEEP IN MIND…I’m DONE shopping for college stuff (except for 2 items I think)! So that’s why this list is SO long and expensive!) The only other things I have to get are groceries, which I’ll get when I arrive at college.

Many others here mentioned they have a lot to buy still.

Depends what you all include in “dorm stuff” (because I think some of the above posts don’t include everything, or maybe they’re just not done shopping yet). I’m about done shopping, only have a couple things left to get (like 2 things literally!).

Store code for each item: T=Target, BBB=Bed, Bath, & Beyond, A=Aeropostale, H=Hollister, VS=Victoria’s Secret, JCP=JC Penney, K=Kohl’s

2 sheet sets- T, $40

2 pillow coverings- BBB & T, $40- regular & bed bug coverings

shoe organizer- T, $20?
dry erase markers- T $5
garbage bags- T, $5?
desk organizing stuff- T & BBB, $25
bedside caddy- T, $10
fold-up drying rack- T, $15
ottoman- T, less than $10 (was originally $60, but I think it was an online item someone returned and they had to mark it way down, but it’s a nice one and a good deal- also may have been a set of 2 of them and had 1 for some reason so it was cheap, all I wanted was 1)
pajamas- 1 new set, bringing the rest from home, JCP $40
printer ink- $30
mini fridge- $100
laptop- $1100 MBP apple store+ some software $75 online
paper plates, bowls, cups, plastic silverware- T, $30-40?
other dorm organization stuff- T, $15

mini hand sanitizers- BBW $5 (great deal, 5 for $5!)
lysol, etc. cleaning stuff- T, $15-20?
kleenex- $10
ziploc baggies- various sizes, T, $15-20?
tool kit- (dad’s idea)- T, ?$10?
suitcase set (3 pieces), JCP, $70 sale (good deal!)
shoes (2, the rest from home)- $80 (tennis shoes from Kohl’s & Sperry’s from Macy’s that were on sale)
A few new nail polish- T, $25
Some new clothes, socks, underwear, etc. (bringing the rest from home)- T, A, VS, H- ~$300

I also got a bunch of stuff as gifts (blankets, all my laundry stuff, Vera Bradley laptop case, ID holder/mini purse VB, VB duffel bag, some socks, some CDs, and that’s what I can remember from the gift pile right now. If I’d had to buy that stuff, I’d estimate those items at about $250 or more. The rest of the gifts were cash and checks to buy a lot of everything else I got for college.

The rest of it I either already had or roommate is bringing.

Plus, a few other small things, but I put most of it on here, can’t get it all, too detailed.

Didn’t add that up, but that’s what I’d consider “dorm stuff,” then add up personal/bathroom items ($20), makeup & related items ($100), towels ($50), and shower stuff/shampoos/conditioners ($60), school supplies ($200), hair stuff ($35), music stuff/supplies ($30), and everything else/random stuff ($75) and it comes out to be a lot! None of those are super big things, except that I got a new (new used though) clarinet, which was expensive, close to $700 but I traded in one of my old ones also!

Quite a few things will last for other years, too, so I think freshman year is by far the most expensive. The biggest things I had to get were a laptop, MS Office software, & a new clarinet, which are alone $1800+, but those I’ll have already for next year!

I spent like $1200 on a new computer, which came with a printer (gotta love those Apple deals:))

Mostly I just used stuff I already had. I didn’t need to buy anything new other than the usual school supplies & books.

Yeah, that’s the deal I got too, forgot to say mine came with a printer, except that I didn’t need it because I already had a better printer to take to college! So we just have an extra printer sitting around here now! Plus we got that free $100 iTunes/app store gift card this year too with a new Mac.

$200 on school supplies? What do you consider school supplies, iluvpiano?

…bedside caddies are useless

large pen drive (to serve as an external hard drive, because I haven’t found that yet, bought one and it didn’t work with mac Lion so I returned it), binders, loose leaf paper, pens, pencils, mechanical pencil lead, highlighters, tape, stapler, etc., planner, erasers, sticky tabs to mark important notes in binders, collegiate dictionary & thesaurus & mla/apa writing guide from Barnes & Noble (those are how it adds up to $200 quickly)- yeah I know those things are online too, but I kind of wanted a good one in a book form too.

other stuff too, but I already had it, so tab dividers for binders, notepad, index cards, and other things…so I guess by school supplies I meant office supplies as well

I was going to get a new backpack, too, but couldn’t find one I liked, otherwise that would have added some more $ to the total. So I’m just using mine from the past couple years and will probably get a new one next year instead.

Also, the reason for some of my list begin so expensive is that I bought a lot of stuff to last for the entire semester, if not more (example- hair products like shampoos & conditioners, makeup, etc.) so it might look a little overdone because of that.
