I never have as a high school, undergrad, or grad student. My high school aged daughter, a senior, almost never has to do homework at home, spends about three hours or more per day practicing music and still sleeps 7 to 8 hours per night. Only time we have been up all night is on long international flights. Poor sleep habits will catch up with you.
Only once, for a huge essay (that we were given 1 day to do). And then the teacher didn’t even grade it. I was pissed.
Hardly ever.
Sleep is very important to me.
Never.
Least I’ve slept was a 1 hour nap after school, then working until 2am, going to sleep, and waking up again for school at 5.
I’ve done from 5am to 3am before, but that wasn’t a school day.
@tola2015 Hm, that’s a pretty interesting routine, and I think I might try it since I always have trouble staying awake whenever I get home from school.
@pancakey it actually works out pretty well. A couple of times some of the kids at my school have told me that they tried out my sleeping schedule.
Never; I need my sleep.
I’ve never done an all-nighter for school, I’ve never slept later than ~4:30am and that’s not very common (I only stay up that late for important essays)
Maybe once a year. I usually just end up not sleeping till 1 though.
I did like 2 and I got sick both times. maybe not my thing. and my sickness lasted quite a while. totally not worth it
Once. Only because my APUSH and AP English Language teachers used to make evil plots to give us a ton of homework on a certain week of each grading period. They thought it was quite hilarious to watch us struggle. We didn’t find it quite as humorous as they did.
I hate Thursdays aka “Hell Thursday” . I tend to be a procrastinator when it comes to AP English Language and AP World History projects , packets , and lengthy essay packets . I go to sleep by no later than 4AM PST , three hours before school .
This past December 2014, I stayed up all night for a full week and a half. I wouldn’t go to sleep until 9:00am, then I would sleep for a few hours and get to other work.
I finished a whole years worth of Geometry course-work in 2 WEEKS. With a 98% average.
I think I did this because I like the feeling of getting things done. It gives me great anxiety to know I have a lot to do. Just thinking about it disturbs me. That’s why whenever I’m doing nothing traditionally ‘productive’, (like browsing CC) I end up thinking about all I have to do. And even if I have no pressing deadlines, anxiety doesn’t hold back. I always feel like I have to be doing something. Practice piano. Math. Code. Study for SATs. Anything. I don’t know if this is good or bad. But now even sleeping feels like a waste of time.
I also did this mainly because I was embarrassed that I didn’t begin High School with Geometry (because of a confusion of Middle School Honors Algebra and Algebra 1).
I will end up taking Calculus in High School, but do you think even having Algebra 1 freshman year will hurt?
@Princess563 I really wish I still had that kind of mindset - I think I had that back in middle school. I’m a terrible procrastinator now, probably because of all of the distractions such as social media. I never seem to learn and I always put stress on myself whenever I do work last minute, ugh. Good job in your geometry course!
I stay up ~2-3 nights a week. Usually by accident, though… Sometimes I’ll get my hw done at 5:00pm and then watch a movie and read a book and finish and then start drawing and then eat and then OOPS. It’s 2:00am, and school starts in 3 hours.
Might as well just do my homework(that’s due in a month) for the next 3 hours and finish it, right?
I just get really carried away.
Dude, junior year I made into the double digits for all-nighters by December. Mostly my fault, though. I took a lot of naps.
Tip: find an all-nighter companion. A little distracting, but also nice when you feel like you’re ready to give up
I have all nighters at least twice a month, not because of homework, but because I have insomnia. Its been like this since fourth grade. I used sleeping pills at one point, but I didn’t want to become dependent on them so now I just read a book or something until I fall asleep
@piggybank33 I usually read books when I try to fall asleep. This usually backfires and I can’t fall asleep until I finish the book… at 2 or 3 AM -_-
I’m a junior and I pull an all nighter once every two weeks probably, but most nights I don’t get to sleep until 2 or 3 am
Junior here and I probably pull an all nighter once or twice every few weeks. I usually go to sleep at 12-12:30 and wake up at 4-5:50 to finish my homework and get ready for school. It is honestly extremely draining because I’m taking 7 AP classes and 4 dual enrollment courses this semester. Can’t wait until summer
