How soon will we hear about admission decision?

Yes, wake said the same thing… However, since Tulane aka Jewlane, is 40 percent Jews, I would not be adding to the diversity, but emphasizing the stereotype

Man, you really need to dial it back some. First, the term “Jewlane” is offensive to many people. Second, it is more like 25%. See the following reference: Looking at only full-time undergrads, the number is about 6200 give or take, so 1540 Jewish students is about 25%. http://inlikeme.com/jewish-students-at-colleges-universities/

There is a reference in Reform Judaism Magazine that has the 1540 number, but I couldn’t get it to paste properly on my iPad. Just Google Jewish population at Tulane. Should be the first hit. It takes into account part time students also, that is why they say 14%. For full time undergrads (about 6200 or so) it is 25%.

I wouldn’t worry about adding to the diversity. There are more important things to think about when choosing a school. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

@fallenchemist: I’m sorry if the nickname “Jewlane” is offensive to you, however it’s what my friends( Jewish and non- Jewish) call it when they don’t say tulane. It’s really not offensive. It’s just saying that for a southern school, it attracts a lot of Jewish students and has a similar student body to Emory

@bowler!!! Thank you ill let you know how it goes

13all94: Don’t worry. I stayed there a month ago and that’s what almost every student I meant there joked about it being called. There were even shirts that said jewlane.

Yeah, that’s why there were three PMs to me within minutes complaining about it. Just because you think it is OK doesn’t mean you should be insensitive to others. Besides, what’s the point of even using that term in a forum like this? Think before you post.

Agree with FC. Even though there is a large Jewish population at Tulane, and the students do joke about its name with a play on words (as they also do with Loyola next door, pronouncing its name with a “G” onstead of an “L” as the first letter, and referring to the statue out front of Loyola with a silly football reference (see the caption under the photo of it here [Front lawn - Loyola University New Orleans - StuVu.com](HugeDomains.com)), there is still a bit of discretion and sensitivity that is prudent to use in a forum such as this, where a wide readership may misunderstand the tongue-in-cheek reference it should portray.

I am sorry about being offensive Fallenchemist…and anyone else.

I am most nervous that my friend got a deferral today- I hope that won’t be a trend for me or anyone else

fallenchemist - thanks for the reassuring comments. She definitely completed the “Why Tulane” essay with some very honest, specific reasons and has had some contact with the admission counselor.

Good to know there are others in the same boat (cheer007, pasadenamom).

My daughter applied early November and was hoping for that 2 week turnaround others talked about. But at this point 5 days isn’t too terribly awful. Waiting on another early action school as well, but we didn’t expect to hear from that one until mid-December.

So I have a question regarding deferral notice…is the deferral posted on Gibson, or received in mail only? Just wondering…

It should be posted on Gibson, but the only person we have heard from so far got a letter of deferral, then checked the Gibson account which said it was still under review with a decision by the 15th. So not sure yet. Let’s see if a couple more examples come on today or tomorrow.

Received deferral letter today, status still not updated. I have a question though; up until last week, my status said incomplete on Gibson (Which i assumed was fine because everyone on here was complaining of bugs with the website). I called them last Monday and it turns out they had marked me as a transfer student by accident because i had Dual Enrollment transcripts in my application packet. Is it possible that I was deferred because they only had two weeks until the Dec. 15th deadline to properly review my application?

That is hard to answer, but I would start a detailed correspondence with your (correct) admissions officer. I say correct because I think there is one for transfer students and it might not be the same person that is assigned to your geography. I would think with your stats, assuming you showed decent interest, you would get an offer of admission. Of course that is a guess, I cannot see everything in your file. Maybe you can even set up a time to talk to your admissions person. Just depends on how much you want to get into Tulane I suppose.

Thank you for the insight FC, i think i’ll and send an e-mail to my admissions counselor to see if their error had any affect on the decision.

Damn, are we all gonna be deferred… my gibson thing said it is expected no later than the 15th… IM NOT SENSING POSITIVE NEWS… (ahhhhhhh)

like people have been getting deferrals this whole time its not an end thing… relax

Nightly check in. Who else is still waiting with the original application is complete message on Gibson?

Aquamom5, I am.
