I wouldn’t call it luck. I would call it discipline.

It’s definitely a trying process, checking your Gibson account. But I would imagine that seeing that “Congratulations” message makes it totally worth it.

Thank you for all the oliver17. I really appreciate all the public and private support. This board is such a tremendous resource.

I just got a package in the mail today saying I am admitted with a founders scholarship. I am in the Mountain West, if that helps anyone.

Just got a package in the mail saying that I’m a Founders Scholar! 22K per year! I’m in Los Angeles.

I’m so confused on how they are sending out letters/updating Gibson…I live in CA(bay area) and haven’t gotten anything yet. :(

@samsam01 Me, too! I live in Vermont and am waiting for my decision notification. I applied RD close to the deadline.

They let them out in waves. You will find out on Gibson before you receive anything in the mail. At least that’s how it worked for me.

waiting very patiently to hear from admissions after being deferred!! VERY STRESSFUL!!!

Natedoggydog - I think it was about three days, but I’m not sure how long the acceptance was sitting in Gibson unopened because I had never checked before. I also got the Founders Scholarship which may have changed things (I found this out in the snail mail letter).

@setakl: Me too! I’ve been checking multiple times a day. I am very anxious to get a decision!

Just checked Gibson…“Your decision is pending review. We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive a final decision by April 1.” That was the same message that I got before I was deferred. Does anybody else have this on their portal or know what it means?

@markis7 Mine says, “Your application is complete and is awaiting review. The Admission Committee is working to render your decision as quickly as possible. The latest you will hear back from the committee will be April 1.” I applied RD. Why is ours different?

That’s what mine said and then changed to the pending message as of today

@markis7 Hmm…well I don’t know the significance in that. I really don’t understand the dates/time-frame/rhyme or reason as to why they send them out in waves. Can anyone shed some light on this and possibly predict when they will be posted? I’m checking constantly and it’s driving me crazy!

ALSO around what time of day do they post? Afternoon? Thanks!

Only a guess, but I would speculate that the one message (“Your application is complete and is awaiting review. The Admission Committee is working to render your decision as quickly as possible. The latest you will hear back from the committee will be April 1.”) is what shows up on Gibson once your application is complete but they really haven’t looked at it in detail yet. The other (“Your decision is pending review. We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive a final decision by April 1.”) means it is actively being looked at by one or more admissions officers. That makes sense since markis7 got deferred. His app was complete, they actively looked at him for EA and so the message changed to the latter, and then he got deferred and so the message changed back to the general “on hold” wording. Then when it got picked up again for active consideration it changed back again.

They send them out in waves because while Tulane is not formally rolling admissions, they have found it to be to their advantage to not release the results all on one date. Could be for various reasons. Maybe that way it spreads out the rush of replies compared to having them all go out at the end of March. Maybe it is because they want to get the offers to students before they hear from those other schools, especially when it contains a nice scholarship. There is a lot of power in having a student start to envision themselves at Tulane for a while. Maybe it is because Tulane is in a position whereby this is the best way for them to try and gauge how large the incoming class is likely to be, along with its composition and that allows them to make adjustments in the offers they make at the very end. Maybe it is a combination of those factors or something else entirely, although I rather suspect the last two reasons are strong ones.

I am not sure if there is a particular time they post, although it seems to have been in the afternoons and evenings, in general. But that is just based on bits and pieces of data, which might be biased in some way.

My portal still reads, “The admission committee has decided to defer your application to the Regular Decision pool. Your application will be reevaluated in the spring. We will try to get you a decision as quickly as possible, but you will receive a final decision by April 1.”

@Cheer007 So does mine! Hopefully it will change soon!

Just checked Gibson and it has changed to “Your decision is pending review. We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive a final decision by April 1.”

Do you think they are trying to be like an ivy league and waiting until April 1st for most of the applications

Tulane IS the Harvard of the south!
