How strong is Virginia's Engineering program?

So compiling college list for applications.

How would you rank Virginia’s engineering (computer science in particular but all fields) vs say Penn State, North Carolina State and Ohio State?

I know Virginia is a stronger school overall, but what about their engineering program?

Are you OOS for all of these choices? Many state universities have quality engineering programs so the most cost effective option is usually in your own state. While UVA is a large university it’s smaller than Penn State or Ohio State. I think I would group Penn State, Ohio State and North Carolina State together (in some ways the engineering programs may be more similar to that offered by the polytechnic universities, e.g., Virginia Tech). UVA does like to emphasize the liberal arts education.

PA resident, but after running the net price calculators all schools would be affordable.

@fflmaster I am a current CS major in SEAS; what would you like to know?

Here are some undergraduate and graduate ranking data: http://www.seas.virginia.edu/about/rankings.php
Here is an annual career report from 2013, listing salaries, companies, grad schools, and more: http://www.seas.virginia.edu/admin/careerdev/files/seasannualreport.pdf

Hopefully those links help!

@Fennekin can you tell me how the career service is working for you and have you been involved in either co-op or internships?

@fflmaster I am currently serving as a research assistant in a CS lab at the university; I recommend you look at this page if you want to learn about the Center for Engineering Career Development (CECD) at UVA: http://www.seas.virginia.edu/admin/careerdev/
