How to audition when applying theatre?

Ok, so this is probably a dumb question but I’ve tried a million times to search this online. Which of these colleges require/offer auditions during the application process for students planning to major in theatre, and when and how do you get the audition?

Yale, Columbia, Williams, Barnard, NYU, Muhlenberg, American, Northwestern, Sarah Lawrence, UMASS, UCLA

Also, for those who have experienced the audition, what is it like? Not only monologue requirements but also what they ask you, the experience…?

I suggest that you post this on the theatre/ drama majors forum… http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/</a> … There are many posters there who will be able to answer your questions.

Yale – no audition for undergraduate program
Columbia – no audition for undergraduate program (my understanding is that the undergraduate program is at Barnard)
Williams – no audition for program
NYU – Auditioned BFA program… Go to the Tisch website for audition requirements
Muhlenberg – no required audition for program, but there is an audition for scholarship consideration.
Barnard – no audition for program
American – I believe there is an audition for the program. Check the American theatre program website for audition details.
Northwestern – no audition for program
Sarah Lawrence – no audition for program
UMASS – I do not believe there is an audition for the program. Check the UMASS theatre program website for details
UCLA – auditioned program. Check the UCLA Theatre program website for details.

With this list of schools you may also want to look at: UVA (no audition), Skidmore (no audition), Connecticut College (no audition), Vassar (no audition), James Madison (audition), Temple (no audition), William and Mary (no audition), Fordham (audition), Elon (audition), Boston College (no audition), Boston University (audition).

For information go directly to the Theatre/ Drama program websites if you cannot find the information you want on the main application page for the college or university.

Some of the schools that do not require an audition may have one (or accept an arts supplement) for scholarship consideration or to help boost an application.

Thank you very much, i’m just seeing this now… super helpful!
