My old email address was hijacked and my contacts have been receiving junk mail. Will it stop if I delete their addresses from my contact list or have their addresses already been stolen? I don’t want to close this account because I still receive emails there but I don’t use it send emails anymore. Any ideas?

Just change your password
That should stop them, happened to me before also

It happened to me with an email address that I had for 17 years. I changed the password and it stopped sending robo emails to my contacts. If not, empty your contacts. It still may not help.

Yes, password change should work. Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. seem to be more vulnerable to hacking Switch to gmail.

This happened to my son recently. Changing your password seems to fix the problem. Also, in my own email account, I deleted all contacts but a few friends and family members. On AOL, every time you receive or send an email it automatically adds it to your contact list (I’m sure you can switch it off). If your email does get highjacked, the less contacts, the less people who will get the spam.

Funny - this happened to my son’s aol account and then within a week, I got an email from a good friend with an AOL account that her email had been hijacked and then a few days later a physician I do business with had his AOL account hijacked. First time in the 15 years that I’ve had AOL I’ve seen this happen to people I know. I think AOL needs to tighten its security.
