Global History Honors
Teacher: Good, but not the kind that would go through the whole section with you. He depends on you to read the chapter, take your own notes, etc.

Everyone in Global Honors:
100 avg.
This marking Period’s Trend: 100 on everything (no duh because there are no extra credit points in his class)

Me:
91 avg.
This Marking Period’s Trend: Downward. 94 on two quizzes and an 83 on another.

Alright. I know that I have a good grade in Global History Honors, but I feel so bad that I am so low in the class.

He gave us only one night to study and besides I’ve been up to midnight just to do homework. School starts at 8 AM and I have to get to the bus stop by 7:00 AM, so I can’t stay up too late. That’s with one honors course and doing everything I can possibly do in study hall and homeroom (for homework that is given in advance). I can’t believe that high school is like this.

Hmm…well, are honors classes weighted at your school? If they are, then I would suggest you stay in the class. However, if they aren’t, I might consider dropping. However, only do this if you truly believe you will not have enough time to sleep or study. Ultimately though, I would try to work through it. Maybe you could ask some of the other students in your class how they manage to study. Regardless though, I hope everything works out for you:)

I really don’t understand the weighting. Does it mean that I am going to have three points added on my average at the end of the marking period or semester?

Everyone in my grade is up to midnight or later doing homework, regardless of regular or honors classes or not.

Hmm…well if that’s the case, something is better than nothing:) If you are going to have to stay up for the same amount of time, you might as well take the honors class. However, I honestly can’t believe that EVERYONE is staying up until midnight or later. That’s ridiculous. Have you talked to your teacher about this?

Ask him the week before what the next chapter will be and read it BEFORE the teacher lectures on it. Make note cards and use them as flash cards. Teach the assignment to your dog! He will love it and it will help you retain the subject.

Some kids just aren’t any good at taking multiple choice tests. If this is you, then beef up your other homework to offset a lower test score.

By taking the time to ask this question, I can tell that you really want to do better and that is half the battle. Best of luck buddy.

History can be a really tough subject. You should re-read the textbook multiple times.
In my class you need to study profusely to get at least a C on a test, and if you really understand the stuff, you should do better.

How do other people have 100s in your class, though? I suspect that your class is not extremely challenging, so I suppose you should try harder, and you should see improvement.
