How to get from UVa to VT for a weekend

My girlfriend goes to VT and I would love to be able to visit her, any ideas on the best ways to get there? Also cheap I might add (no zipcar)

Disclaimer: This in no way means I would ever root for VT, GO HOOS!

oh and also, i have to be able to get back. duh

Someone else might be aware of something I’m not, but there seems to be a shuttle bus provided by VT and you could just take the bus – [Directions to Virginia Tech | Virginia Tech Home | Virginia Tech](http://www.vt.edu/where_we_are/maps/directions.html)
Not sure of cost

Nothing on that link really seemed helpful as far as Charlottesville to Blacksburg

This might help:

Looks like it would be easier for gf to come up than for you to go down.

it says there is a bus (greyhound… we have one in cville) down to tech-area, and a shuttle bus from the greyhound stop to vt campus. that’s all i could find though…

You KNOW you’re not from VA when you read this post and initially think to yourself, “Wow! That’s mighty ambitious – UVa to the University of Vermont (VT) for a weekend!” LOL!

Haha tbh it’s probably easier to get up to Vermont then go to Virginia Tech from here

Greyhound or Amtrak are your options if you want to take mass transit.

Isn’t Hoo Has It still around in some form (maybe on @UVA?)? There always seems to be a ride board somewhere on line.

Hmm I’ve never heard of Hoo Has It, I’ll check it out

Haha other people on Hoo Has It have the same problem I have, I guess I’ll try it

I have went from Charlottesville to VT before, just this summer to visit my boyfriend who was doing research there over the summer :)

Anyways. So what I did was to take the free trolley( or taxi in my case since it was too early) to the greyhound station, which is also very close to the Amtrak station. You take the greyhound to Roanoke. The place where you get off is also the place where you can take the SmartWay bus. The SmartWay bus is $4, but you must have them all in $1 bills. The machine DOES NOT take $5. Also be aware, that the SmartWay bus does not run on Sundays. So if you are leaving on Sunday, you will have to find some other means to get to Roanoke. I have never tried taking Amtrak, but I believe the closest Amtrak station is pretty far away.

the smartway bus comes about every half hour or hour, i forgot. you can check on the website for a more detailed schedule. Just make sure your timing works out for the trip  Hope this helps

Thanks that was really helpful :)
