How to get to campus from airports?

My daughter is a prospective student but she is OOS and would have to fly to VA then get to campus.

I read that flying into Richmond is a good option but then what is the best/safest/easiest way to get from the Richmond airport to W&M?

Alternatively, would it make more sense to fly into Dulles? There may be more direct flights for her to get there vs at least two flights to get to Richmond. Then how does one get from Dulles to W&M?

William and Mary has shuttles the students can sign up for most breaks: Airport and Out of Town Travel | Parking & Transportation | William & Mary

My daughter flies into Richmond and coordinates shared uber or rides with school friends.

Great! Thank you!

I was worried about this too prior to freshman year but was pleasantly surprised by the kids ability to coordinate among themselves.

The drive to/from Dulles can be very long depending on traffic. I flew in there once and drove down to avoid a layover and won’t do that again! Richmond even w a layover has worked out much better for us.

Not sure if Norfolk airport could be an option for you. Good Luck! W&M is a special place!

Richmond and Newport News are the closest. Norfolk is a possibility, but travel can be long because of the tunnel traffic depending on the time of day. Students definitely find rides. My daughter had a side hustle going shuttling people to the richmond airport as she was driving north.

Good to hear! So did your daughter charge for gas or more, out of curiosity?

Oh good! That’s a relief to hear.

I think she asked around $15/ride.
