Isn’t beaurocracy from the French? D needs to go to the Embassy in DC to get her student visa. Visa required for 6 bleeping weeks study over the summer. The French embassy is right by Georgetown, and other than knowing no metro stop, I don’t know if there is other public transportation from Union Station. Anyone familiar with the area?

There’s a G2 bus line that goes through Dupont Circle (along P St.) and ends at Georgetown. So she could take the Red Line from Union Station to Dupont Circle and transfer to the G2.

Or – it being a nice day – she could take the metro to Foggy Bottom (Yellow? Green? I don’t remember. Look at the map) and walk from there. It’s about a mile, and pleasant.

In addition to being in Metro-inaccessible Georgetown, La Maison Francaise is hidden somewhere on Reservoir Road (4101, I think). Georgetown’s hospital end is on 37th and Reservoir, so you’ve still got some ways to walk even from our University.

If she’s going on a weekday, she could take a Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) Bus from Rosslyn; the stop is right across the street (crossing the crosswalk going towards the river, not the side of the road with the McDonalds on it) from where all the Metro buses line up in Rosslyn. It’s free of charge, and will plop your daughter in the middle of campus; she’ll then need to trek over to the hospital end towards Reservoir Road, and make her way to the French embassy from there.

Alternatively, she could take the Georgetown Metro Connection - [Georgetown Metro Connection | Georgetown DC BID](<a href=“Georgetown DC - Explore Georgetown in Washington, DC”>Georgetown DC - Explore Georgetown in Washington, DC) - but, that’ll leave her even farther from Reservoir Road.

Geez, sounds complicated. I’ll probably give her $$ for a taxi to the embassy and she can take public transportation back.

It’s actually really complicated. I wouldn’t really suggest it for anyone unfamiliar with the Georgetown area. An alternative: she could take the Metro to Foggy Bottom or Rosslyn, and take a cab to the French Embassy. Should be cheaper (especially with the metered fares coming into place soon) than taking a cab from the Union Station-area.

Make sure she reads all the fine print about getting a visa from the bleep French. They will want everything and more than it says on the website. Plan to go back once or twice. If you need an appointment, they mean it. Start early.

She has an appt, and the 500 pages of documents required (including notarized letter stating I will support her for $xx/month). I sure hope she doesn’t have to go back- with Amtrak fares this is just an added expense and irritation. Good point about taxi from Foggy Bottom.

Dufay, go to the site below and type in Union Station and French Embassy, and it will give you directions for the metro and bus your D should take, including times. The alternate is to take a taxi, either from Union Station or from the metro station.
