My daughter goes to school in Europe. None of her teachers ever dealt with a US recommendation before. Advice on how to get the best possible recommendation under the circumstances would be much appreciated.

Would like to her from International students who have handled this problem.

-have your daughter prepare a detailed resume
-get the teacher evaluation form and fill the part required to be filled by the applicant
-fix a 15-/30-minutes appointment with a teacher who knows her well
-during your meeting with the teacher, tell him/her about the college you are applying to, what kind of applicant are they seeking. then talk about yourself, how you’re a match for the college. remind him/her of any incidents with the teacher you think reflect positively on your personality. remind him/her of anything outstanding you’ve done, or anything you think is worth mentioning.
give the teacher the ‘teacher evaluation form’ and the resume along with an addressed & stamped envelope. fix a deadline. s/he should be given at least about 2 weeks for the rec.
ask the teacher to type your rec out on a sheet of paper, probably using the questions on the teacher evaluation form as a guideline. this way, s/he can just print out copies to mail to individual colleges, instead of handwriting each of the many forms.
politely remind the teacher as deadline approaches
once you get into the college, don’t forget to thank the teacher!
