How to make up for the lack of AP and IB in my country?

Hi! In my country no schools offer AP or IB programs. So I think it is a huge disadvantage for students like me who has never studied abroad before. How I make up for this especially when it seems that the education system in my country is not internationally recognized?

Short answer - you don’t. No college is going to expect an applicant to invent educational opportunities that don’t exist in the curriculum. Colleges will expect you to make the most of what is available.

skieurope is right: colleges take what you have.

However, there may be test centers in your country, especially in the capital, where international students may live, even if the schools don’t offer a course called “AP”. Many students self study for APs that are not offered by their school- for example, they take their schools calculus course, then self study for the calculus AP (or Math subject test) and go to a nearby test center to take the exam. That is also true for SAT Subject Tests.

So, if (IF!) you live in or near a city that has authorized test sites, you can organize taking the exams for yourself (or with the help of your school). We did this once when living in a remote part of a less developed country, through an international school for foreigners in a nearby city. The school was pretty nice about helping us, even though my D was not a student there. If the educational system in your country is not recognized, then even getting a couple of subject tests done is a great way to show that you are able for a high standard.

But: if it is not possible, then it’s not possible: you just go forward with your best evidence of your academic ability.

My school doesn’t offer AP or IB classes so I signed up for a program (only 100 people in the country get in) where I can take University courses at one of the top universities in Canada for free.

Make the best of what you can. Colleges in US are aware that foreign countries may not have AP or IB, or both
