I applied to Amherst (ED not signed) and filled the part 1, but not the part 2 yet. I want to make some changes like opting in for the SAT score ( my board exam system is weak So I think SAT is a must) and changing my honors (just got awarded an honor from collegeboard) Could I just abandon my application in coalition app and fill in the common app?
Can you clarify if you submitted any part of the application?
The first part I did submit. (the one without supplemental essays)
Have you submitted just one part of the app to Amherst? That seems unusual. If so, your option is to either withdraw the app, not a great idea IMO, or contact the admissions officer representing your region and ask them to add information to the part of the app you submitted. If you withdraw, then submit the Common App instead, that’s just going to raise red flags, IMO, but maybe it will be fine.
This all sounds odd though. So you are planning to take the SAT and ask them to add that information to your ED app? You aren’t going to get your score back in time. There is a due date for the app. Test scores will be part of that due date. You can’t just keep contacting them asking to submit more information.
And when are you submitting the supplemental essays? Why submit a partial app? There’s a lot of confusion in this post so please clarify.
You need to contact the school you submitted to (presumably Amherst) and ask for guidance. I agree with @Lindagaf that the reasoning of new SAT submittal doesn’t make much sense as you aren’t planning to take it again until December. There’s just no way to get that score evaluated as part of your ED application.
I was procrastinating in what college I should choose, I applied a partial app to amherst.
I mailed the admissions team, no territory person assigned to me, there is no reply yet.
I took the november sat and got my results it was 1430. I thought it is not good to add it because it low but now looking at my 9th grade marks again. I think it is important to add it.
I’m not an adcom, but I don’t think your 1430 SAT score will help in your admission chances to Amherst. @MYOS1634 @Mwfan1921 @aquapt
But of course it is your choice whether to submit it…or not.
My 11th board is great but (yes we write it by the government )is not recognised though and my 9th grade marks are terrible.
I assume a primary reason for applying ED to Amherst is that they meet full need for internationals. Generally, a 1430 isn’t at a high enough level to be competitive for Amherst, but it might depend on the country you are applying from.
So you took the test almost a year ago? It probably would have been preferable if you had taken it more recently, but it’s too late for that.
Do the best job you can on your supplemental essays. There is a free essay service here on CC. You can submit a feedback request and hopefully someone can have a look and give you some tips. STUDENTS, Need Help w/ Your College Essays? Get Community Feedback Now
I could be wrong but it sounds like the OP applied.
Usually on school portals they allow you to update from TO to submit.
Perhaps once the student’s portal is set up, they can do it that way.
I don’t really understand partial apply.
You apply once the app is complete.
What am I missing ??
On Coalition app specifically, there are two parts. The general info goes on part 1. Once you submit that, the second part with the school specific essays and questions can be filled out. You can’t get to part 2 without submitting part 1. Kind of a clunky way to do it, in my opinion. No wonder most prefer Common app.
I am so so sorry, I took the test in October this year. I am from India, and I got a SAT top Indian performer award (just yesterday) I did not mention it.
I am applying ed to Amherst because of the open curriculum it is the most flexible that I found so far.
Am I locked then?
This student is applying from India…
As I already mentioned, you need to contact the school and ask them.
do you really think there is no value except for the meet need part of amherst?
That they meet need and are need blind is the value you need. You picked it - that’s what matters. Not what others think.
I really hope I am making a right choice.
I appreciate your optimism.
But SAT or not, the likelihood of you getting into any school you might pick is slim to none.
If you submit, your score is too low. If you don’t submit, why didn’t you ? The assumption is that it’s low.
Personally I’d submit.
But I’m guessing the answer will be the same regardless.
If you go to school in the U.S., it will be a Minot or Lander or Texas A&M international.
Not Amherst.
Of course not. Amherst is one of the top colleges in the nation.
As a student from India, I don’t think your SAT score is going to help you at Amherst, sorry to say. With low grades in 9th grade and your SAT score, I don’t think Amherst is realistic.
