My dad was just relocated to Michigan, and now I’m going to lose all the board positions I’ve acquired (at a very competitive Chicago magnet school). How will this affect my college acceptances chances?
This happens more than you think. You and/or your GC can make a note of this in the “other info” section of the common app.
so are you a junior now? The school year is almost done, and you have almost done everything you were going to do with the clubs, no? Or were you elected for next years boards?
Getting involved in some of the same clubs may help you make new friends. What were you involved in before?
On your common app you can say that you were elected President of the ABC club and then subsequently moved. They will know that you then that you were in a club long enough to get elected.
Generally by the time you are applying what happens Senior year is not as important…the fact that you got elected is pretty much what you need.If you apply Early Action or Early Decision, you will be applying in the fall anyway.
Take a look at the book by Cal Newport:
How to Be a High School Superstar: A Revolutionary Plan to Get into College by Standing Out (Without Burning Out)
This will also help you figure out what to do over the summer.
Are you going to be moving now or at the end of the school year?
Are you taking AP classes?
Does your new school ahve the same ones?
If for some reason they do not, make sure to keep studying so you can take the AP exams.
