How Will You Spend Tomorrow??? (November 3rd)

Feeding the poor in a soup kitchen…or Xbox. Either one.

My daughter said she’ll go with me at 7 pm to a store to look at keyboards - it’s going to be my Christmas present.

Our polling place hasn’t changed since we moved here in the 90s. Some new homes have been built since then, but nothing major. Our whole township has one polling place - the township office.

ETA: We’ve never missed an election either - and only voted by mail once for this past primary.

I did a hard (for me) 5 mile run this morning to take the edge off my anxiety. H & I voted at noon. We were in and out in 6 minutes. Son-in-law, son, and his GF are poll workers (2 different states). I haven’t decided what I’ll be doing tonight. TV/social media might put me over the edge and I’m better off walking away (I’m the same way with major sports events).

In 2016, I calmed down by watching Lassie reruns. Wonder if Timmy is still in the well? Maybe I’ll find out tonight.

Anyone else miss Tim Russert?

I have no idea what the lines are like today, but our local news said 40% of registered voters in our city had already voted before the polls opened today. Usually, 25% by the end of the day would be a good turnout. But, in addition to the big election, we have really big local issue on the ballot today.

I was also reminded that I have a retirement board meeting at 5:15 this evening. Who scheduled that one? Blech. I suppose it will help kill some time before I can go to bed.

We watched an episode of Burn Notice - introduced DIL to the series earlier and she loves it. Will watch another with supper, then election stuff afterward.

It’s been a really good day for my guy getting more interviews. Regardless of the election outcome, this is a “feel good” day for us! 5 minutes until the next one becomes official - if the slots aren’t too competitive as it’s a top rated place.

I liked it better when there’s no forewarning I think. It lets us feel like we’ve got some sort of edge.

We are having carry out Mexican food on the patio with bubble friends I don’t plan on turning on the TV until late tonight.

I exercised this morning, walked the dog and went to work for a few hours. Left early as planned because I did a 3 hour stint as a poll monitor - it’s gorgeous fall weather today thankfully. Came home, went for a run. Need to think of something yummy for dinner - I’ll cook it. I’ll take the dog out again for a walk and then settle for the evening watching news. And more news. Unless I get too anxious!

The boy got a slot - definitely a good day.

Early voted. The wait here is short today for those who waited.
Normal day of news, swim, school, work.
Not normal day of drinking during zoom class, allowed by prof, checking news into the night as necessary.
H is channeling his anxiety into cooking.
Might get to open champagne and trek down the street to toast with fellow traveler friend.

We ended up going to the bank just before 5pm and drove past the township office again on our way home. It was unbelievable. Some people appeared to have to walk about a quarter mile just to get in line and based upon our earlier experience I bet the wait was around 4 hours - meaning an hour past closing time - and there were still several cars trying to find parking. It was just past 5. This has never, ever happened here. Not even close.

I honestly feel for everyone. Anyone in line by 8 can still vote, but how many are going to feel voting is worth the wait? Undoubtedly at least some will have wanted to vote, but won’t. It’s sad. It’s only by luck that med school lad needed me covering his email this morning so I woke everyone up early to join me at the polls when we did. If he hadn’t needed me we probably wouldn’t have waited over an hour figuring the line would get shorter after the morning rush. It never did. It lengthened.

I wonder how many wish they had voted by mail. It’s truly, truly sad - no matter which side they were voting for. I want all votes to count.

Otherwise, when we got home we went for a lengthy walk. Sunset was absolutely gorgeous and we were thankful we got our votes in due to our “luck” plus med school lad snagged a couple more terrific residency interviews. Then we finished our Chinese take out and watched another episode of Burn Notice.

I just did my Lumosity (games) for the day and will do a quick DuoLingo story - enough to count for the day’s streak, then will grab an ice cream sandwich and settle in on TV.

Hope everyone enjoyed their day - and night.

Yes!!! He was the best. I miss him every election season.

I am spending tonight with my siblings - CA, NC, TX, and me in NY.

No matter what happens nationally, our local issue went my way. I have hope.

I am jealous of anyone who can spend election night with their family. I avoid discussing politics with mine, because I am absolutely the black sheep of the family!

Every day of my life. I miss his white erase boards (replaced by seizure inducing flashing red and blue lights). I miss his math story problems (“If Candidate A wins Ohio and PA but loses VA and Oregon, will the train make the station?”)

I am very proud of America for exceeding the voter turn out. Several WI counties ran out of ballots and had to get more. In Colorado (where the majority vote by mail), more than 60% of registered voters had voted before election day, but there were still lines waiting to vote in person today.

I’m disappointed that several cities felt it necessary to board up stores and government buildings in case of rioting.

Love reading all the reports here of crowds at the polls.

Morning reports here in PA said voter turnout was high, but the younger vote (18-29 I think?) didn’t show up. They haven’t given a number yet - just said it was equal to 2016.

To me, that’s disappointing. It’s their future being decided. One would hope they’d care. In areas like mine I figure many didn’t care to wait in line.

I wonder if that will be similar all over, or just in PA.

The common ground is big and there are more vines and invasive bushes to clear. So I’ll do more of that today instead of doing anything inside where my phone would be handy to check updates. I can listen to the hawks and the woodpeckers and the blue jays. Maybe the turkeys will stroll by.

Day 2 of Yesterday.

WFH today with a couple of work errands to leave the house for. It’s beautiful. Took a walk this morning and plan to balance touching base (haha - HEAVY touching base) with news and more exercise and yard work after I get off the clock.

I was mentally whipped last night and actually “fell asleep” 10ish. Several wakeups and checked news briefly.
