My DD was accepted! Email came last night right before 1am
@mrsjohnson2001 Still nothing? Because same
Nothing and we checked the application thoroughly-it looks like she did everything right.
So they sent an email at 1:44am EST (well past any sort of time) to say that test scores weren’t received and they were moving S to RD. Who knew because there’s no portal?! Anyway, he withdrew since he got into his first choice and his safety who were on time (actually 30 min earlier than promised) when they announced.
@mrsjohnson2001 ive been checking and mine was complete and on time! This is just on Howard now, not sure why they are doing that though. And I didn’t even get the email that @PossePops mentioned. Congrats to your son btw!
@ifeum14 my DS is in the exact same situation as you. He applied EA back in October and that was the last communication he had from Howard. No decision e-mail received today (he checked spam, junk, promotions folders as others advised) His college counselors at his high school ranked Howard as a high likely for him (They don’t use the term safety). Very frustrating
@SavedAllDay we are in the exact same situation! The official Howard Admissions account finally replied to my dm on Instagram asking for my full name and DOB and told me they would contact me tomorrow even though they are on break. This is after several comments and dms to both the Admissions’ and University’s accounts. I would recommend contacting them over Instagram to see if that helps? Maybe tomorrow they will check multiple applications to rectify the situation, whatever it may be.
@PossePops wow. I still don’t understand why there is no portal to see what is missing once you apply. I’m happy that the first choice came through for your DS.
Thank you! Our other son got into Morehouse today. We didn’t get an email but they posted on FB and Twitter this am that emails were sent so he checked the PORTAL (did I say portal?) and there was his acceptance. First choice for him too so we are all very happy today! Good luck to all the great kids out there!
@ifeum14 I went on Howard’s website and looked up the Director and Associate Director of Admissions. Sent them both an e-mail about my son’s lack of a decision. The Director of Admissions e-mailed right back (which surprised me) and said she would look into it. A little while after that communication, my son received an e-mail from Howard indicating that they did not receive his test scores so he was moved to the RD pool. My son took the ACT twice (in October 2018 & February 2019). I sent both sets of scores to Howard as well as 7 other schools on October 5th. Howard was even listed first on both requests. Just logged into the ACT portal to confirm his scores were sent to the correct school. Every other school where he applied received his scores but for some mysterious reason Howard did not receive either set of scores. Doesn’t make sense but I’m not the least bit surprised by these shenanigans. My oldest daughter has friends who attended Howard and when she told them her little brother was applying they warned her about the administrative challenges. My son has already received some early action acceptances. A couple of his other top choices will notify in January or early February. Not sure yet how we will proceed with Howard. @ifeu14 I hope your situation works out better.
We were able to get an answer today as well. Same thing-they never received her test scores although we sent them through college board. If they had a stupid portal, we could have rectified the situation right away before the deadline. Now she’s been moved to RD, and she’s pretty upset bc Howard is her first choice.
Have been communicating with the Admissions Director at Howard this evening via e-mail. I explained that the scores were requested on October 5th and asked if they could double check to see if maybe they were in the wrong place. She e-mailed me back saying she was able to locate his scores after all. My son is a “Jr” and while “Jr” was listed on his ACT scores it wasn’t listed on the application so the scores didn’t link. All this frustration because of a missing suffix at the end of his name. Who knew. This didn’t seem to be a problem with other schools he applied to but nevertheless I’m going to have my son recheck all his other applications that are pending. The Admissions Director said that a decision has been rendered (didn’t say what it was) and that my son will receive a notification e-mail no later than tomorrow. She also apologized again and said that she was committed to making sure my son had a good experience going forward, which I hope means good news is coming.
@SavedAllDay I have a feeling that something similar happened to the others who have had issues. I hope that others who had a similar issue follow up and get decisions rendered quickly and thanks for letting folks know what happened to your son.
Yes, I received an email yesterday saying that they did not receive my scores on time but I know for a fact that they did. The admissions office still said they would look into it today when I brought this to them. Maybe they did not associate my name because I went by my shortened name for the SAT but other colleges had no problem associating my scores. This is exactly why they need portals. And even so, why didn’t they contact people ahead of time?
.
Definitely agree. I looked back at my son’s decisions and he has 2 other schools who did not have portals, and they both sent emails confirming that all information was received. At a minimum, that is what I would expect, but a portal makes things easier for the applicants.
I hope that you were able to get a decision rendered and I am sorry for the inconvenience that Howard put some of the applicants through.
Accepted Applicants, please check your SPAM folder for an HU Financial Aid 101 email Also, don’t forget to mark it as “not spam.” so you don’t lose any important emails in the future.
Accepted applicants: a new email came out today with portal information to review financial aid awards. It was in my daughter’s spam folder so check your spam.
Yes, definitely check your spam folders. My son was offered Presidential Scholarship in the Bison Web portal!
Team! My son’s finanancial aid notice was in his spam folder too. While they are “closed” they are working. Probably getting alot done before the 2nd. Hope you all have favorable outcomes. My DS got the Capstone Need and Merit combo. He is so blessed!!
Interesting line about ED/EA this year in the FA email:
" There are 2,000 seats and housing assignments available, while the University receives over 20,000 applications each year. This year, our early decision/early admit applications increased by over 25%."
More people are applying via ED/EA.
