My daughter received the Leadership scholarship… we were hoping for at least the Capatone but this is still a huge help.
Congratulations @Flutistmama. Now our babies need to get this outside money.
@ChangeTheGame Congratulations again to your son and your family! Happy New Year!!
Thanks for the insight we checked the spam folder and there was the financial aid email. My daughter got the Leadership scholarship as well. I wanted to find out is this scholarship renewal for the following 3 years ?
Yes, the Leadership scholarship is a renewable award, but it is contingent upon the student meeting the conditions of the Scholarship Acceptance Statement (contract) each year.
I don’t know the specific requirements for that particular award, but for my older child’s Howard scholarship (Bison STEM) as an example, she has to major in a STEM discipline, maintain a 3.30 GPA, and take at least 15 hours per semester. Failure to meet any of those requirements would result in forfeiture of the scholarship. So make sure you read the specifics of that particular scholarship agreement once it is available because some scholarships have an appeals process and others can be taken with no recourse if the requirements are not met. Congratulations on your daughter securing a nice portion of the “bag”. Here is a link to the “warning” letter they sent out last year to scholarship students.

I didn’t get any email from about my bison web or scholarship the only thing I got in my spam folder was understanding my financial aid package 101
What’s happening?
Hey @NewToAmerica, my son received an email titled “Your Howard University Financial Aid Award Letter” Friday December 27th at 8:27pm EST in his spam mailbox. If you didn’t receive that email, you need to check back with Howard. Have you already completed your FASFA? It needed to be completed (and Howard selected as one of your schools) to receive a financial aid award from Howard.
I filed my FAFSA, and I received a spam mail that same day too but the Content was “Understanding your financial aid 101”
I’m highly disappointed with the way Howard university handles the administration of the admission process. I’m not the only one having this problem as seen on Twitter!
With all what I have experienced during the admission process, Howard is No no for me!
@ChangeTheGame
Thanks so much for the info. We are excited that she got this award…Just hesitant about dealing with the administration for the next four years. I’ve heard stories from other parents ?
@weldmel I have a couple of “Wow” stories with my oldest who is a current student. I have helped my kid become a great advocate for herself and I have watched every aspect of my kid’s financials at Howard to avoid the worst pitfalls. I definitely have some tips and tricks for dealing with Howard that help (especially dealing with move-in and move out of on campus students). It will not be fun dealing with Howard, but the growth that I have seen in my daughter has been unbelievable, so I persist.
How much do they give if you get capstone scholarship
Hey @Medicine96, there are actually 2 types of the Capstone Scholarships (Merit and Need based). From what I have seen previously, the Capstone scholarships offered to people I know have been different amounts , and I do not know the upper and lower ranges of the scholarship. Your household EFC would affect any need based Capstone that would be offered.
Update: On Dec. 16th I received a direct message telling me I would receive an admissions decision by Jan. 3rd. I still have not received anything… I messaged them again and was told I would receive a decision by the end of the business day. Congrats to everyone who got in!
@ifeum14 you may recall that you and my son appeared to be in the same situation. I was informed on Dec 16th that a decision had been rendered and he would receive his decision by the following day. He never did receive that e-mail decision so we figured we’d have to wait until January 6th to follow-up. However, this past Sunday (Dec 29th) my son told me he received an e-mail from Howard about financial aid. He then checked his spam folder and found 2 additional e-mails about financial aid (one sent on Dec 24th, the other on Dec 27th). One of the e-mails said something to the effect of congratulations on your acceptance and provided instructions for accessing his Bison Portal. So we know he’s in, we just don’t know for which major (he’s interested in both architecture and civil engineering). I’ve advised my son to regularly check his e-mail, including his spam folder to make sure he doesn’t miss anything going forward. I would suggest that you also monitor your spam folder. I hope good news will be coming your way soon.
@SavedAllDay thank you for the thoughtful advice. I had to reach out to them again and they said I would receive a decision by 6pm (EST) today. I received an acceptance email a little after 6. Congrats to your son! Hopefully, I will get my portal soon. Best of luck to everyone!
@ifeum14 congratulations on your acceptance to Howard. My son also received an acceptance email a little after 6:00pm today so I guess the admissions folks are back! Go figure. I wish you all the best as you move forward in your college admissions journey.
@ifeum14 and @SavedAllDay, congratulations on the acceptances and here’s hoping for you to receive great financial aid packages from Howard soon.
I am a student hoping to attend Howard this fall and I received my acceptance on December 13th but I have not heard anything back about financial aid since then. I submitted my FAFSA back in October so I’m pretty sure it’s not that. I also got contacted to apply for the Bison STEM Scholars Program but I never got sent an email about setting up a portal or anything for the rest of my financial aid possibilities. Do any of you suggest emailing or calling the financial aid office? Being a first-time student I’m not sure the best means of communication and would love some feedback.
