Huguely GUILTY 2nd degree murder

Ykw…

and grand larceny

No, who? What on earth are you talking about, and why wouldn’t you put it in the title?

The trial in Virginia - Huguely was found guilty of 2nd degree murder of his girlfriend.

I assume OP is referring to George Huguely, the guy who killed his girlfriend in her UVa apartment two years ago. Why the strange, coy post, I have no idea.

Yes, George Huguely of UVA Lacross murder trial.

They’ve started the sentencing phase already.

No real surprise. I just hope it was based on facts and not on emotion.

Yes don’t understand the coyness- there are other murder cases across the country.

Haven’t really been following that trial- but yesterday a man who was shot at a popular park close to me died, unfortunately the police don’t seem to have any leads. ( he could have been dumped after he was shot- when he was found, his blood was starting to coagulate & there aren’t any reports of people hearing a shot.)
But unnerving - this part of town doesn’t get much violence.

And if it isn’t bad enough that there may be a serial killer in Bremerton- an 8yrold girl was shot by a classmate at school.

^ How does a 3rd grader get their hands on a gun?! ***! It sounds like she’s going to be ok, thank the stars.

It was the only one being closely followed here.

[George Huguely guilty of second-degree murder - The Washington Post](http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/george-huguely-guilty-of-second-degree-murder/2012/02/21/gIQA1ss4TR_story.html)

Wish he had gotten convicted on first degree but second really does fit the crime. The judge better give him the max: 40 years.

The jury gives the sentence, the judge can decrease, but not increase the sentence the jury gives. But I hope they give something significant.

Per the other thread, they gave 25 years for the murder and 1 year for grand larceny. Judge has to decide what to actually impose.

Guess that means there will be an appeal.

Appeals are pretty common when a defendant is convicted, especially if there is a significant penalty imposed. Not sure what else a defense attorney WOULD say. I wouldn’t say that someone who terrorized and murdered someone they “loved” is my idea of “spiritual.”

I think his defense team’s sudden emphasis of GH’s professed “spirituality” goes right along with the choice of clothing they told their client to wear. Neither fits.

I read the thread title as: “HUGELY guilty of 2nd degree murder”

I thought it was about the young man who killed his girlfriend by running her over with his car three times: [Fort Lee hit-and-run suspect Charles Ann accused of running down girlfriend | NJ.com](Fort Lee hit-and-run suspect Charles Ann accused of running down girlfriend - nj.com)

…from the above news article

“CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WJZ) – After about nine hours of deliberating on the fate of the former University of Virginia lacrosse player George Huguely, a Virginia jury found him guilty of second-degree murder and grand larceny. It took them another few hours to recommend a sentence of 26 years in prison, 25 for the murder change and one for grand larceny. As per Virginia law, Huguely will not be able to get out of prison early on parole. This is a recommended sentence and the judge will formally sentence him in April. He may or may not follow this recommendation. The formal sentencing is April 16”

^^^ Reagarding the sentencing I caught something way early on DC TV this morning that stated under Virginia law the time served for sentencing must be within 80% of the recommendation time, so looks like a minimim 20 years.

So a lot of you haven’t heard that much of this case outside the mid-Atlantic?
