Are there any particluar professors for the human event classes that you would reccomend taking or avoiding in particular?

I’ve heard bad things about Humphrey and Hunter. I absolutely adore my HE prof, Facinelli, and I know my friend loves John Lynch (there are two Lynches). I’ve heard good things about other Lynch (his wife) as well. I’ve heard Martin is good. I know a couple people who don’t like Ingram-Waters. I would check ratemyprofessors.com. That’s how I figured out to take Facinelli.

Martin is really good and Pickus is also well loved. The third of the “greats” was Stanford (I think that was his name, so long ago), but he retired. The three of them made up the triad of science, the arts, and sociology/philosophy. They are all pretty good though and I don’t know really much about the newer professors.

im wondering which professors are the best too. I am attending the honors college and my orientation is this saturday (so excited!) and I knew there were a few professors that were highly talked about. I am going to try to get into one of the good ones.

I talked to some more people and heard that Montesano is good, and Dalton a bit…creepy. I know someone who likes Bruhn (sp?) a lot. I’ve also heard good things about Pickus. Also take into account the professor’s area of expertise. The science professors teach it somewhat different from the humanities who teach it differently from social sciences.

Check out the faculty profiles on the Barrett website. The Human Event is reading heavy, but the professors have a lot of leeway in selecting the reading material. Choose a professor who specializes in a subject you are interested in. For example, I took the Human Event with Dr. Beggs, who received his doctorate in philosophy. I absolutely loved the class and still speak with him today. A friend of mine, who did not enjoy Beggs’ philosophical approach, enjoyed Dr. Scott Lynch’s class much better, given her literary bend. Reading the professors’ biographies will help you select the professor.

In general, students love Dr. Facinelli, Dr. Humphrey, Dr. Burke, Dr. Dalton, Dr. Lynch, and Dr. Scott Lynch. The reviews of Dr. Popova, Dr. Hunter, Dr. Bruhn, Dr. Susser, and Dr. Brady are mixed.

I just went to orientation and I got Dalton for the human event class! So hopefully he is as cool as everyone says he is. About him being creepy…haha that…is…interesting.

Montesano is great, especially if you like analyzing religion/rhetoric/ethics.
