Hungry For New Music

I’m Into Keane, Mattafix, Jamie Cullum, Frou Frou, Craig David, Scissor Sisters Type Of Music…any Similar Suggestions? Also I’m Into The Flavor Of International Music, So If You Can Suggest Some Good Songs That Would Be Greatly Appreciative. Also Has Anyone Heard Of The Songs On The New Hilton Hotel Commercial? If So Please Tell Me The Name Of The Songs?

Try the music genome project (aka Pandora)…here… http://www.pandora.com/

If you mean the animated Hilton commercial with the animation, that’s Landed by Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five. Fantastic band and he is awesome individually. If you like Ben Folds, consider Joe Jackson. Jackson is a British musician who originally started out as a punk in the late 70s but eventually has moved onto more sophisticated projects. He is great.

If you can provide more guidance as to the style of what you’re looking for, I’ll try to help, but if you want to just explore off the artists you listed, use Pandora.

Good luck! (btw, you have much better taste than most folks)

I Want Some Music That Is Categorized As “easy Listening” - Some Stuff Thats Not Too Heavy On The Eardrums. I Downloaded Other Peoples Suggestions But That Music Kind Of Sucked (with All Do Respect). Some Jason Mraz, Daniel Powter Type Of Stuff. :)

Hayden, Bruce Cockburn (old stuff, Dragons Jaws, Humans, Salt Sun & Time), G. Love and Special Sauce, The Shins, Belle and Sebastian, Air, The Postal Service, Nick Drake, John Mayer (live stuff is better than studio)…Cockburn and Drake are my personal favorites, older, slightly darker. G. Love is more of a light, summer, loose style. Postal Service is darker but still light on instrumentation. Hope these help…

In addition to Pandora, I recently found this.

http://www.musicovery.com/

Plays songs due to your mood and other factors. Pretty cool.

Awesome Thanks!

I’ll do the I.M. one: The best and most common spelling IMO is: Fairouz (She is in her 70s or 80s now) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairouz A comitted Orthodox, but you can hardly spot any religious tone in her lyrics. Her voice is, like wow!!!

I didn’t recognize any of the names you mentioned (sorry) so I don’t know if my suggestion will work for you, but you asked for I.M. seperatly, so… she sings in Lebanese Arabic slang, and sometimes in proper Arabic (Beautiful, inocent, pure lyrics) many times children folklore songs. And the music, uh! the music is undescribable!

Some (many?) of her songs may be boring to some people (NOT ME!), but many others are real fun to jam with like ‘kan azzaman’ ‘Ya ana’ ‘tiktik’ ‘Shamss Al Atfal’ and many, many others

Google the songs’ names with her name spelled FAIROUZ, or sample some of them on Amazon.

I never looked her up on Youtube, but here we go:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=853_DQPS2L8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PolxuFxkCw8&mode=related&search=

This is what one youtuber commented, which is an understatment actually:

“OMG the irreplaceable voice and the amazing soul this woman has! This is what our world is missing today! No one even comes close to compair to this great vocalist! all current arab artists combined can’t even conjour up anything that comes close to a single song she’s sung.”

What do you think?

Sounds like a nursery rhyme to me. But I have to acknowledge her voice is incredible.

Oh, this one is great, it goes like this: (excuse my poor translation):

“Fly O kyte fly. I want to go back to being a little girl [playing] on the neighbors’ roof”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hoa7kuV-Ukg&mode=related&search=

Postal Service sounds alot like DCC. The song “Such Great Heights” reminds me of the UPS commericial!

Dude!! I wish I didn’t read this post (I prob. wont sleep tonight since I have found these youtube videos)

search her in WinMx or whatever program you’re using, most of her better (funner&less boring?) songs are not on the web.

oh. I realize most of the videos are silly and very old, just close your eyes and listen.

Ok… enough of this. I gotta calm a little.

Is this any thing like what yo u were looking for? How close?

Postal Service sounds like Death Cab because they share frontman Ben Gibbard. I felt like Postal was more “easy listening” style because their songs are shorter and the instrumentation isn’t as depressing.

Hey turn off your CAPs – instead of looking like THIS it turns into This.

“The song “Such Great Heights” reminds me of the UPS commericial!”

Mainly because it IS the song from the UPS commercial =)

The song ‘Colorguard’ by Division Day is very… I don’t know. Smooth? Sleepy? It’s good, basically =)
Also, the album ‘There’s Nothing Wrong With Love’ by Built to Spill is pretty ‘light’ but is very smart at the same time.
I second Belle & Sebastian. Sufjan Stevens is very good as well. Illinoise is more orchestral and complex- but calming and beautiful nonetheless. I especially recommend ‘The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us!’ Quirky name… but lovely and soft song.
