LANE has decoupled—the top has been sheared off vía the wind shear so we will mostly just have rain and flooding. Hopefully folks will recover soon!
Lane is no longer a hurricane—a tropical storm only!

I have calls and emails to the Big Island and Maui about local charities. The Hawaii Food Bank has been recommended as well—it is a Honolulu charity that feeds those who are in need. They are a 501c3 charity. I will let you know what I hear about worthy local charities.
I have written to a Senator in Maui and one on Big Island about charities they recommend. I will let you know what they reply.
Other than the flooding that has already happened, the rest of the state is expected to be spared, as the storm is being pushed away from the state. We never had more than brief, scattered showers and gusty winds where I live on Oahu.
I found an article about how to help the many who were displaced by Big Island volcano and now by the flooding that LANE is dumping on the Big Island 40+ inches in 72 hours.

I know that Catholic Charities helps people without regard to religion and offers a wide range of services. The Foodbank there does work hard with the many who would otherwise be hungry.
I believe that in our state, the hardest hit has been Big Idlsnd followed by Maui.
If anyone wants more info about particular local charities in HI, please PM me and I will be happy to share more.
